That doesn't sound good - partly because I'm sure we're all concerned for Brian's health given his mature years - and partly for me because I find Tim Rice's style of presentation to be about as exciting as watching paint dry - and I'm talking anti vandal paint
Seriously though I really hope that things turn round and another famous name does not bite the dust like so many others this year _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I agree, Tim Rice's presentation was awful, completely lacking any feeling. A robot would have done a better job, though I appreciate he presumably had little notice.
In the meantime I suppose we have to tolerate this flannelled fool until Brian hopefully recovers. |

Missed the announcement but agree he sounded somewhat bored about the whole thing.
Must admit Brian didn't sound too good last Saturday and Lisa T was still off although I didn't hear the programme yesterday.

hopefully he'll have a word with the producer and start playing less of the obscure stuff ,there's just too much now _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

I agree. This week's edition really was full of obscurities, much more than usual. Surely the listeners want to hear more hits and well known album tracks, with a few obscurities of course. And preferably more late 60s. |

I simply cannot understand why they persist in using Tim Rice every single time Brian has to take time out when there are far better alternatives such as Johnnie Walker Simon Bates or even Tony Blackburn now he's been forgiven for his apparent previous sins
Granted some of these people might not be available at such short notice but last time Brian was ill we were stuck with Mr Rice for several weeks
I enjoyed the cover presenters a few years ago including Sandie Shaw and Joe Brown and that's proof for me that there are so many better options
As for the music content as has been stated on here many times what the show needs is a new producer and the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

To be fair they probably record 4 or 5 programmes in one go and Tim Rice was probably the only one they could get at short notice. |

I'm not sure they do record quite as far ahead as that because when we sadly get a well known sixties artist passing away there is generally a tribute the next but one Saturday which suggests to me that they record about one to two weeks ahead
I suppose in the holiday season this might get stretched even further but I wouldn't have thought that's likely right at the moment _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I thought Tim sounded more at home this week..perhaps not quite as nervous...?... and he played some great music.
Stevie Wonder's version of Alfie is beautiful.
Loved hearing Darrell Banks and his Open The Door To Your Heart and the P.J.Proby he played.
One of my favourite Gene Pitney tracks featured also..
A good programme for me. |

That Gene Pitney track is one of my favourites as well Becky! I missed a lot of the show so I'll listen back as the playlist was a good one, I love that Dusty track.

I agree that he was much better on yesterday's show but I still don't think he's a natural when it comes to radio presentation _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I love Dusty's 'Some Of Your Loving' too, Helen, a lovely song. As good as 'Going Back'. |

I'm not always at home Saturday mornings at the moment so don't always hear the whole show, but Sat 10th I thought was good with a lot of good tracks I'd not heard in years, Jackie Trent's If You Love Me being one I'd forgotten all about. Recorded the show from Listen Again.
Yesterday's wasn't bad either, music wise, with Town Without Pity from Gene Pitney standing out.

Great track from Gene,Helen.
Tim said it was the last song he sang during his last ever performance.
Love the Gladys Knight song he played..Take Me In Your Arms and Love Me. |

Yes I caught the remark about that being Gene Pitney's last song. I remember listening to Ken Bruce when he broke the news on Gene's death.

Yes Becky - I enjoyed that but I just wonder whether that particular track was in there in order to assuage Mr Swern's guilty conscience rather than for any other reason

So Tony Blackburn will be taking over. I was hoping not. It's going to be live..so does this mean he'll be telling us, every few minutes, which listeners have tweeted to say how much they're enjoying the show ? |

They'll come up with some concocted story that both shows have wonderful listening figures ................

Just like they did with the overnight shows having few listeners, when people like me who were around in the small hours of the morning know that both Janice Long & Alex Lester had a significant & very loyal audience. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I have just been listening to Brian's final SOTS. It makes me realise even more what a loss he is to the show and his final sign off has left me in tears. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Spot on Angela, my thoughts exactly.
What a complete disgrace that the BBC should force an end to this fabulous man's show. Much as I love Tony Blackburn, I'm sure he won't be able to provide the personal background knowledge Brian excels at which makes the show so interesting and provide such a link to those great days of music for us who remember them.
A truly great loss for me and Saturdays won't be the same again. Luckily, I've recorded every show for the last 6 years so plenty of Brian to listen to thank goodness!
I'd like to say thanks to Brian if I could, he's given me such a lot of enjoyment over the years and some great music I hadn't heard before.
Thanks me ol' Mate!
Did I read we can expect Dermot O'Leary and Zoe Ball both on Saturday?
I despair... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I listened this morning and I thought that Brian really wasn't putting his normal superb effort into the show
To me it was as if he was a man who was totally p---ed off with the BBC and was simply going through the motions from a position he really didn't want to be in
I felt really sorry for him and always will - he deserved a lot better _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I've not had a chance to listen as we were away (nowhere exciting) but I think last shows are often disappointing as the presenter is obviously feeling like he'd rather be anywhere else than behind the mic.
SantaFefan have you thought of sharing your recordings?
