Today's show was a pre record as Tony has Covid. One of the best playlists in a while with many of my fave's.
Bobby Vee's The Night Has A Thousand Eyes and James and Bobby Purify's Let Love Come Between Us to name two.

I'm listening to the Vintage Chart on Boom Radio while making lunch - first chart up is 1966. |

He said he was OK Becky but his wife was a little worse than he was. As Helen says it was a good play list today, always nice to hear Spanky and Our Gang and the Hollies _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

Have missed a few recent episodes of SOTS but this week's was for me a great one with lots of my favourite 60s tracks.
A pre record as the 2nd hour was the most streamed tracks of the 60s as part of the 70th anniversary of the charts.
Checked out the previous week and that isn't too bad either so will listen back to that one later on.

This week's edition is part of the Decades of Sounds which seems to have been featured on various programmes this weekend on R2 and all tracks are from 1963.
1963 was a favourite of mine, probably because it was the first year I was really into pop music, so it goes without saying I think it's a FAB playlist and one to keep if you're into that kind of thing!
Enjoy!

No Tony on today's show, Johnnie Walker a more than useful stand in. One rather strange thing though, Johnnie played The Monkees Daydream Believer followed by a story about Neil Diamond after saying that he wrote it, unfortunately it was written by John Stewart, Diamond wrote I'm a Believer for The Monkees, think JW had a bit of a senior moment, mind you he's probably not used to an early start lol.
There was also a nice interlude when Sally traffic popped in to say hello _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

Some nice pictures on Twitter of Johnnie and Sally! Will listen again as it's a bit early for me.....
Hope Tony recovers, seems it's another bout of what he had a few weeks ago.

If only JW was the permanent presenter. No childish jokes, no talking over the start of records, no trampling over the end of records long before they've finished. Bliss |

Great to hear Johnnie on 60's, esp the brief reuniting with Sally. The friendship runs deep. I'm happy with him doing the 70's, especially with the guests he's had over the past few weeks. Especially Andy Fairweather Low and Ian Hunter. For me, he's also more of a 60's DJ than anyone, but seeing he also has the Rock Show, he's doing well enough. Long may he reign.
Not sure he'd want to get up at a ridiculous hour every Saturday either. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

If only, it was the best SOTS in years! Music was good, I wonder if playlist was changed for Johnnie?

I agree about his being more of a 60s DJ as well Raver. When I saw him at 'an evening with JW' a long time ago now, I asked a question which was did he miss being stuck to playing only 70s tracks now after his Sunday afternoon show had changed its title. He said no he didn't.
It's 60s music that does it mainly for me though.

OH and I played Saturdays SOTS60's on our way down to Manchester. We don't listen normally as we find TB too much.
It was a fab show - and we knew the words to every song...... there might even have been a bit of singing as we drove.... |

H |
No, it was the same playlist as it would have been, H. JW mentioned it.
It's funny. For me, he was the 60's DJ, mostly because he was the pirate who stayed with the ship and as a schoolboy at the time, I used to read his column in, I think, Disc and Music Echo, while he was still on the ship, with Robbie Dale.
And when he finally did join Radio One, he eventually became for me, the 70's DJ! His tastes were very similar to mine (ie faultless!!) and also Pop The Question, in his weekday 12-2 slot, I think it was.
I must admit though. R1 had some cracking DJs back in the 60's. Rosko, Stuart Henry, David Symonds, and Kenny Everett. I also remember the first time I ever heard Terry Wogan, when he sat in for Jimmy Young back in 1969 if memory serves. I know this, because his Record of the Week was Bee Gees Don't Forget To Remember and I had a bit of a liking for them back then. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I wondered it you'd heard it RB!
Do you ever have Boom on after 6pm? Roger Day does 60s at 6 for half an hour and there are a fair few more that are in his 2 hour show.

Just checked the playlist and it looks to be a cracker! The opening track is one of my all time favourites, maybe THE one.
Radio 1 did have great DJs back in the day Raver, I guess we were really lucky to live through those times.

I think Johnnie will be standing in for another week or two Nod. Maybe even more. TB's doctor has the last word on it.
I saw one of his (TB) tweets earlier. He's messaging Noel Edmonds, who lives in New Zealand now.
Johnnie doesn't like him at all, as he tried to muscle into the Drivetime show permanently while JW was in hospital and then convalescing. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I remember that Raver, thank goodness they took him off and gave Stuart Maconie the job. He did a great job too and remember JW thanking him when he came back, not a word about Edmonds was said......

Haven't listened yet but Tony stll tweeting he won't be back for a while so I wonder who will sit in if he's not back next week? Or maybe there won't be one with the Coronation (hope there will though.......I need some normality to the day)
Nice video from Johnnie showing us round the studio on Twitter if anyone is interested. From memory it's not either of the main daytime studios, think it's on the other side of building as well.

It's Johnnie in again for Tony tomorrow on SOTS according to the R2 schedule. I guess Tony is taking a bit longer off.
Just catching up with last Saturday's show, some great tracks and of course Johnnie making it sound fab!

Thanks for that, H. I did play last week's again and Johnnie said something like 'All being well, Tony will be back'.
I took a look at the studio as well. So much has changed, tech wise, since you went to the JV studios! Frightening, really, what with all the AI talk that's made the news this week. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

I think the studios are the same, we went to the new ones on the 2nd visit and I went on another time for some webpage testing when they were not quite moved into the new ones but they took me round. The one pictured was one that Johnnie used for Drivetime when they first moved (it's on the other side of the corridor) but they changed over to the one that Wogan/JV and then Drivetime used probably when the move was complete. Technology must be so different though.

A terrific (as far as I am concerned) three in a row on the programme this morning. Cupid’s Inspiration Yesterday has Gone - Fleetwood Mac - Man of The World and Herman’s Hermits - My Sentimental Friend
Other classics are available on the programme but those three, one after the other, really hit the spot for me. 😊 |

3 in a row were a good choice too.
