One of my absolute heroes! He was such a mainstay on children's TV when my sons were small. We loved Trumpton, Camberwick Green, Chigley and Bric a Brac and laughed like anything watching Play Away.

I took my older son to a stage show in which Brian Cant and Jonathan Cohen entertained an enthusiastic audience. My son volunteered to go up on the stage for a bit of banter and I still have the signed photo he was given.

Here are two clips from Play Away:

RIP Brian. Thanks for all the enjoyment and laughs.

He was such a lovely presence on children's TV...sad to hear of his passing.

Floella Benjamin has said " "He was totally devoted to making children happy"

It showed.

"Here is the clock, the Trumpton clock. Telling the time steadily, sensibly, never too quickly, never too slowly. Telling the time for Trumpton."

RIP Brian.

The Reunion hosted by Sue McGregor is available on the iPlayer

Sue MacGregor reunites people involved with classic children's TV programme Play School, which ran from 1964 to 1988.

Sue is joined around the table by Joy Whitby, presenters Floella Benjamin, Brian Cant, who also fronted spin-off series Play Away, and Toni Arthur and musical director/pianist Jonathan Cohen.

I have fond memories of him on Playschool although by that time I'd moved on to things other than children's TV

He seemed a thoroughly nice and decent man who broadcast to very high standards
