Police have urged companies to be careful when handling mail after a serious of letter bombs have gone off in office which deal with motorist fines etc and the DVLA offices.
Police say devices are aimed to shock, not to kill, but can cause harm to people. The ones which went off are padded A5 style envelopes.

John Reid has urged the public and press not to speculate, and let the police get on with the investigation. |

Funny, but I read that on the BBC website and heard about it on the radio. But I didn't feel the urge to announce it here or anywhere else on account of the fact that the BBC does news perfectly well so I don't need to bother!

Quite right Mark!
And I'm concerned that all this week's events are too close to home!
Those turkey carcasses were driven within 1 mile past our house, and this afternoon my daughter had to dash to a car park in Birmingham before they sealed off the street in a bomb scare. It happened before about two years ago and that time I had to go pick her up from Edgbaston because the police would not let anyone into a carpark for 16 hours.
I know, the police are only doing their job.

There was a bomb scare in Newcastle yesterday morning which completely shut down the Metro system, delayed trains on the east coast line and diverted plenty of buses. Some Metro passengers ended up having to walk about two miles to work!
All because a Polish immigrant was found asleep in Central Station Metro - when roused, he became angry then started shouting "I've got a gun and a bomb, I need to see a psychologist!" Police didn't take any chances and shut everything down in town for about two hours before he was finally arrested and led away.... cue chaos yesterday morning.... I wondered why my office was extremely quiet for the first two hours, thought everyone had decided to stay home for the day! _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Chersk, we had the same prob, I'm a trainer for a car insurance firm (no names!!) and our post room is starting to get the jitters. Security beefed up, etc. I'm all for living in exiting times but for God's sake, letter bombs to firms that deal with cars is a bit much! _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

So who is behind it?
If it's a disgruntled motorist, that would narrow the field of suspects down to say around 40 million people? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Thanks Bobbi. I feel suitably informed now. Do you have a personal telex machine bringing you all the latest stories? Or do you have one of those tickertape machines? A news pigeon, perhaps? Pretty cool how you can rip news stories direct from the Beeb with such alacrity anyhow.

In relation to this enquiry, Police have arrested a man who rang into Jeremy Vine's show yesterday. They think he may have mental health issues.
I'd have thought that was obvious |

And thank you. However, you're doing nothing but re-gurgitating information from an existing source (ie: the BBC) and re-posting it with neither informed comment nor contextualisation. In which case I'll ask: "What's the point?" because it appears to me to be nothing more than an attention-seeking exercise. And I think that's a fair comment.
