Early days but not a very good start...........just my opinion but it's gonna have to get 100% better if I'm going to listen to them.

Can't see one making way for the other somehow.

I thought the start was dreadful. If they were trying to be clever it sounded anything but!

I'll probably listen to Magic and Richard Allinson, I'll miss the guests but I can't do with what was broadcast today.

Two very capable broadcasters, but they haven't got the chemistry together - at least not yet.

I can't see the value in keeping Confessions but moving it to a different time slot. Much of the audience it built up at 1740 won't hear it at 1820, not least because their drive home is over. Surely this was an opportunity to provide some continuity for those getting used to change? Then the features could be kicked around in a few months.

Yes I agree with your suggestions Rob. There was definitely no chemistry at all last night. I won't waste my time on it and will switch to Richard Allinson on Magic FM (I did that when I didn't care for the standin presenter on Drive anyway).

I found some stats today that Whiley lost listeners and share in the last two years while Mayo gained them (he was over 4m ahead in September), that only 58% of her audience listened to Drivetime (compared with 73% listening to Chris Evans) and the average age of her listener was supposed to be 34-44 but was actually 54 - above the station (and Drivetime's) average. Yet these two shows are supposed to meld together. It just doesn't seem to be happening.

I always avoid double handed shows. On local radio they just seem to want to entertain each other. I have absolutely no intention of even giving this pairing a chance. I did listen to Jo Whiley some times in the old slot, but gave up on Drivetime a long time ago because of the silly features.

Richard Allinson on Magic is the Drivetime Show of choice-a great show with great music.
If you can't tune in try Richard Allinson each weekday morning on Magic at 10am with Magic Soul.

I'm not surprised on the figures Ian. I now listen to Magic in the morning and like Ronan and Harriet a lot. I'm itching to know the answer to the 'what's the sound' for £30,000!

Gillian Reynolds isn't impressed with the new Drivetime either, according to her column in the Sunday Times this week.

She says we are probably stuck with it for a year or so as it is, unless the ratings fall dramatically or on of them gets a better offer. She hopes that won't be Simon........... So we know who she prefers.

Listeners to this week's Radio 4 Feedback programme had a lot to say about the new Drivetime. Lewis Carnie tried to defend the changes and IMO failed miserably. They always know best!

I've never heard so much waffle, bluster and fudgery, since the last Brexit update.

Who are these noneneties, who think they know better than the millions of listeners, while being paid handsome salaries for ruining perfect;ly good and very successful shows? Carnage should be given his P45 tomorrow morning. Six months to bed in? It's a radio show, not a pair of shoes or a shrub!

His poor reasons and excuses just don't wash. He said things need refreshing from time to time, or words to that effect. So why is every other daytime programme exactly the same as it has been for decades, aside from the breakfast show, which couldn't be avoided. Unfortunately.

How much money the Beeb wastes on these useless suits, borders on criminal. Although to give Carnage his due, he's done what few others could have, by (and I'm guessing and hoping here) creating a mass exodus of listeners from a very popular and perfectly fine show. And if Simon does leave, as Ian seems to believe, I hope he states publicly, what he thinks of the whole sorry mess, because these idiots should be held accountable for their disastrous meddlings that affect so many licence payer's enjoyment. They booted out Johnnie Walker from the Drivetime, to make way for Mr Shouty. which was bad enough. This is even worse. It's more likely to cause drivetime accidents, as people are more likely to fall asleep at the wheel from sheer valium-like boredom.

After seeing Angela's comment (thanks Angela) about Feedback I had a listen . Listening to Lewis Carnie defending the new Drivetime was like listening to a child,with his fingers stuck in his ears, going blah,blah,blah to all criticisms of it...and there were plenty of them!

Everytime I've heard it, which hasn't been often, it's sounded like her show rather than a joint show. Now that Richard Allinson is back on Magic I'm tuning in to that more, although I do miss the chat from R2, but it's summer and there are other things going on!

I caught Mark Radcliffe last night while doing the ironing and it makes you realise what things used to be like when he was on at 7. I don't often listen at 8 unless I'm in the car.

There were some funny tweets to Simon, from "Her Maj".

That's possibly the bitter icing on the cake, H...those shows at seven were just the right time. I haven't heard a single one, since they were changed. Mind you, I also miss Mike Harding...

I switched the telly on last night...and there was Jo Whiley, at the Hampton Court Flower Show. Is there no beginning to this woman's talents? I've had a fiver on her succeeding David Bumblebee on Question Time.

This show is dire. I really miss Simon's old show - I switch onto Radio 4 now after Steve Wright, or else put on my own music.

Jo Whiley has an intimate sound which worked well when she was on her own. Simon had his team - they've gone now, and it's two hugely uncomfortable people trying to make fire by rubbing wet twigs together.

Simon is off this week so rather than have Jo present it on her own the bosses must have decided "awkward banter" is as much a feature as Confessions because they've got Ricky Wilson in. He seems a nice enough chap but he doesn't know much about music and, again, no chemistry with Jo. Awful!

He's from the Kaiser Chiefs and was one of the judges on the Voice for 2 years so I'm surprised if he doesn't know much about music as he seemed to on that. He was a teacher prior to the band and must admit I liked his personality.

Maybe he didn't have much choice in doing it, he covers for Dermot on Saturday mornings sometimes.

I do like him normally, but he's not a great presenter and there's no chemistry. He couldn't get the phone number right, and wasn't particularly impressed when she banged on about meeting Lenny Kravitz.

As I've said here before, I was put off Jo Whiley when she said a few years ago that she would never play anything pre 1980. She's probably trying to be down with the kids and it doesn't work. John Peel she is not.
The sooner she gets booted out the better. But of course the BBC are always right.

It happened like l predicted, Jo whiley simply adding her usual text/email/tweet me etc.

Another show now unlistenable on R2, only Ken Bruce show worth switching on for during Daytime Monday to Friday. And Saturdays are bad now we have another Blackburn show (used to be SOT60s) and O'Leary.

At least Radcliffe and McConie are moving to saturday breakfast on 6music, sadly leaving us with no alternative to Steve Wright on 6music .

They know best.

It sure is a desert of decent shows just now. I've almost forgotten to switch on the radio some days.

I wondered what was to happen to Radcliffe and Maconie when I heard they were leaving the afternoon slot on 6.

It's alright to say "listen to the shows you like on iPlayer" but it's a chore to decide 'okay I'll do that then you've to set the darn thing up, by which time you've wasted 15 minutes'. You've probably decided you don't really want that show after all.......

A radio is best enjoyed in the present after just pressing a button or turning a dial!

Sorry for the digression and rant but...... well you all know don't you!

I'm used to using Listen Again on weekdays. Sounds of the 70's, Guy Garvey, Liza Tarbuck, sometimes Sounds of the 60's etc. It does have the added bonus of fast forwarding through traffic, news and waffle. But I very much get your point, Helen.

Saw the 6 Music changes in the week. Lauren Laverne doing the breakfast show...I wouldn't have thought she'd have been thrilled with that, having a young family. Her morning show is very good, too. I often flit between her and Ken. Now they've given it to Mary Anne Hobbs, I'll stick with the Bruce. She has an annoying whispery voice. On the bright side, at least it's not Tom Ravenscroft. I'm intrigued to see (or hear) the format for the Shaun Keaveny afternoon show. I never thought Rad Mac were as good together, as they are on their own.

There is no reason at all, why the Beeb can't have a national radio channel for the more discerning listeners. Leo Green and his like, would be a great listen. And I'm sure the older licence payers listen to BBC radio far more than the younger generation. When you hear the crap that's playlisted, can anyone honestly say that it's better than all those gems from the likes of Sinatra and Ella, backed by top musicians and brilliant lyricists and composers? A 50's and 60's station would be cheap enough to run and hopefully, attract a lot of listeners. Maybe that's the problem.

Or even play old shows, as 4 Extra do.

BBC national radio just seems to go from bad to worse. I listen to BBC Radio Tees quite a lot during the day time at weekends now. To follow on from what 'oldraver' says, some of you may like to catch up with Colin Bunyan's Vintage Vinyl on Sundays from 2-5pm. He plays music from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s.

The changes to 6Music are ridiculous. Once again, something has reached record ratings (like Drivetime) and instead of thanking the presenters and their teams for years of hard work building an audience the whole thing is immediately dismantled. Makes no sense.

It's great! I'm listening to a show from the end of last month as I type.

Never heard You're My Everything sung by anyone but Max Bygraves....the Nat King Cole version was tremendous, as you'd expect. Google tells me Al Bowlly recorded it, too. No wonder my old Mum liked it!

Scott McKenzie's San Francisco now...and once again I'm that 12 year old kid in a flower shirt! Laughing
