Walk, jog or bicycle across a New York street with an iPod plugged in your ears and you could get slapped with a $100 ticket under a new law proposed by a legislator from Brooklyn.
State Sen. Carl Kruger's bill would also outlaw the use of cell phones, Blackberries, video games or other electronic devices when crossing the street.
He cited the death of a 21-year-old man who was listening to music when he stepped off a curb and was hit by a bus in Brooklyn in September, and the death of a 23-year-old iPod listener last month.

Do you agree with this or are stupid people who dont look where they are going the only ones to blame if they end up getting runover? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

This is so topical.
I work in the City of London and just this very week I have seen on a couple of occasions people walking out in front of cars whilst listening to their iPods because I'm sure they cannot hear the traffic coming.
I myself walk to work from the train station listening to my iPod but am thinking of stopping that so I am aware of busy traffic/can keep my wits about me etc.
I think the US proposed laws are sensible imho. |

Yep, someone angling for a place in the Darwin awards tried to walk into the side of my car yesterday whilst fiddling about with his iPod/MP3 whatsit instead of looking where he was going. Didn't want a dent in the side of the car so stopped before he got the chance.... a pity. If I'd been driving a works van or something similar, I would have kept going and then watched as he bounced off the passenger door. I believe in rewarding stupidity.
I love the looks you get from such di**heads when they finally realise they're about two steps from oblivion. Whilst reality dawns on a select few as to their narrow escape, most seem to blame you with their eyes for daring to drive on the same bit of road that they've decided to walk out on without checking first to see that nothing's, er, actually using it.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Ido agree - but I think it should be aimed at protecting drivers because they are likely to be injured slightly and their car damaged, even worse if someone also goes into the back of them. _________________ -

As over 70% of the information we receive is visual, it makes you wonder if a lot of these people wander around with their eyes closed. I sometimes listen to my MP3 player while walking around a busy industrial site, but I am aware of my surroundings.
Maybe there is a case for limiting the volume on such items.
A seond point, If you look at the advert for the BBC Breakfact takeaway (podcast), there's a woman looking at her screen as her train pulls in. Will she miss it - tune in next week _________________ Geddon

It is the people who are changing stations or tracks who are the ones who end up getting runover. Actually listening is not too dangerous if you are still visually focussed. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

This is the next big craze & should increase the number of people getting run over!

Iwear for iPod is a lightweight set of glasses designed to plug into the bottom dock of your video iPod. You pop them on, set the two earpieces into a comfortable position, dial up your favourite movie and start watching - it's as simple as that.
