Sad to hear of the sudden death of Ian Richardson, at not a very great age. I loved his performance in the Michael Dobbs trilogy, including House of Cards, and hope they might repeat this as a memorial.

Ian.

Also famous of course for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy amongst others.

According to his agent, he had not been ill and had in fact been due to start filming an episode of Midsomer Murders the week after his death.

A prolific actor who could range from Dr. Bell in Murder Rooms to the wonderful Francis Urquhart.

I was very sad indeed to hear the news.

Marvellous actor. Did he ever play Sherlock Holmes? If he didn't he should have done.

I definitely remember his Francis Urquhart. House of Cards et al was required watching at the time. A repeat showing would be a worthy tribute.

Very sad to hear of Iain Richardson's death. His last role was that of the voice of Death in Hogfather

But he did play Conan Doyle's mentor, Dr.Bell, upon whom Sherlock Holmes was based, in Murder Rooms.

Helen Mirren gave a moving tribute to him when she collected her Bafta. Not a dry eye in the house (including mine)

And yes he did play Holmes in the Hound of the Baskervilles
