With Blackburn, O'Leary, (Zoe) Ball, Davies, Wright, Cox etc etc it's just an old boring R1.

Drivetime has now dumbed down with dreadful competitions instead of interesting interviews etc, and the music isn't up to much.

Worth missing most of the time.

I listen to Sounds of the 70s every week and Pick of the Pops if it is featuring a year prior to 1973. That's all now and very sad because we used to listen in all day. Crying or Very sad

I'm listening far less to radio in general although I'm making an effort to remedy that, but I forget unless I'm in the kitchen..... Radio upstairs where my office/den is not often switched on these days not for any reason just that I forget!

I don't listen to Zoe Ball, or Sara ever. Ken less frequently than previously and Steve Wright only in the car. Jeremy not often either unless I'm in the car. Funnily I enjoy the last 3 when I DO listen.......

Sundays I listen sometimes to EP, SOT70 if at home and POG when he's there. SOTS is on iPlayer also Don Black.

I must say I don't listen to Alan and Mel when they are on Saturdays BUT I have to say I've left them on when they have been covering for POG this current session. Maybe they are suited to that format?

The majority of my Radio 2 listening is via BBC Sounds. Sounds of the Sixties, Top of the Pops (depending, like Angela said) Don Black.

I occasionally dip in and out to other Radio 2 programmes as they are broadcasting. Some though I would never dip into to start with - Rylan is top of that list. Rolling Eyes

Specialist programmes when they come round - Barry Humphries,Bruno Tonioli,Bill Kenwright etc

Some programmes I listen to intermittently - but again via BBC Sounds at a time to suit me.The other week I would have listened to Burt Bacharach on FNIMN until I saw Joss Stone was doing the singing - I gave it a miss.

Daft as it sounds I still miss Alan Titchmarsh's programme. Sad

Becky you are not daft, I still miss Alan Titchmarsh on Sundays, and I too gave Burt Bacharach's FNIMN a miss because of Joss Stone.

I forgot to mention Liza Tarbuck on Saturdays which I always listen to if we are in.

Just to prove I'm a mass of contradiction, I also only listen up until 1973, Angela.

This is all a big reason why there should be another station, as it's now geared towards 80's fans and a much younger audience. It's fine to be a dinosaur, but we still need feeding. And it's usually us who pay the licence fee. But the 30 and 40 somethings do as well. A lot of women in that age range, like Rylan's show, from what I've witnessed in various places and although he's not my cup of Yorkshire, I have heard bits here an there, while driving and also hos 24 karaoke thing for CIN and have to concede that he has a very nice rapport with his audience.

R2 hasn't catered for me on a Saturday afternoon, since Johnnie Walker had his show before being stitched up by the NOTW, so I'm just glad I like sport.

I listen to very little daytime R2...bit of Ken, bit of Wright and whoever's on when I'm in the car sometimes, Very rarely listen to FNIMN anymore or Sunday progs, apart from Johnnie Walker and maybe a little Don Black.

To finish on a non-radio and bright note, I've watched 1950's/60's Sunday Night at the London Palladium on Talking Pictures these last few Sundays. Takes me right back to being a tadpole, just out of a nice Sunday bath and eating a roast beef sandwich while watching it with my dear old Mum and Dad. With the added bonus that I can fast forward the tumblers and jugglers. Bobby Darin last week and Sarah Vaughan the week before. Bliss!

I wonder if in 60-odd years time, my grandchildren will be doing the same with The Masked Singer? So it's not just radio we're being muscled out of.

Hi-Ho Silver! (No, not something the boys will be saying to Philip Schofield...)

A little PS...

I never listened to Radio 1 when the likes of Gary Davies worked there, but I must say that I've enjoyed him sitting in for Ken over the past couple of weeks.

And of course, Liza T is as delightfully mad as ever, on Saturday evenings.

But...I don't want to leave this on a down, so have a welcome piece of good news.

Alex Lester back on the overnights (that'll please someone...), Gambo and Janice Long at weekends. All on Greatest Hits - providing you can get the station, of course.

This is more like it.

After watching a programme on the iPlayer this one came up next as recommended for me - they got that right!

... Sings Bacharach and David!

The BBC have raided their remarkable archive once more to reveal evocative performances from Burt Bacharach and Hal David's astonishing songbook. Love songs from the famous songwriting duo were a familiar feature of 60s and 70s BBC entertainment programmes such as Dusty, Cilla and The Cliff Richard Show, but there are some surprises unearthed here too.

Highlights include Sandie Shaw singing Always Something There to Remind Me, Aretha Franklin performing I Say a Little Prayer, Dusty Springfield's Wishin' and Hopin', The Stranglers' rendition of Walk on By on Top of the Pops, The Carpenters in concert performing (They Long to Be) Close to You and Burt Bacharach revisiting his classic Kentucky Bluebird with Rufus Wainwright on Later...with Jools Holland.
