Sorry I'm reporting after the event but there is always iPlayer or other catch up resources ! It went out Friday night on BBC4 I think at 9pm but I recorded it on the 1.30am repeat. We watched it last night.

This is a new programme, not a repeat and I really enjoyed it. Lots of early footage and it's mainly Bruce Welch and Hank Marvin and later Brian Bennett. Interviews with Pete Townsend and of course Cliff plus others.

Enjoyed the shots of Newcastle City Hall, where I saw most of my 60s groups!

Worth a watch.

Brilliant programme,Helen - loved every minute of it.

One of my elder sisters used to take me to Cliff and the Shadows,as a treat. I was still at school. I saw them many, many times. She also took me to see Jet Harris and Tony Meehan went they went on their own.

There is an obvious friendship between the Shadows and Cliff which was nice to see.

They all look amazingly well for their ages. All the way through Bruce kept reminding me of Tommy Cooper and at the very end he came out with a T.C. catchphrase! Laughing

So many wonderful instrumentals. I have always loved their Eurovision entry too.

Will keep this to watch again.

The only time I saw them was at the ABC in Blackpool with my Mum when we were on holiday, must have been 1963 as Summer Holiday was the hit at the time!

My Mum was lucky enough to see them on their last tour with a friend at the City Hall. I think I've still got a recording that was on on SKY ARTS at the time that we transferred to a DVD.

PS I thought of our dear Flybynight when they showed the 2i's coffee bar! I remember her telling me that she went there when she was working in London. She said it was great fun!

The lovely ABC which is now a car park. Crying or Very sad

Saw The Beatles there among many others.

Just listening to the story of the Stratocaster again.... that was on this Shadow's programme ..and more about Cliff and the Shadows on The Story of Pop on Radio 6 Music

It is an absolutely brilliant series

Can't thank my friend in Bali enough for recommending it.

Always think of Tommy Steele whenever the 2i's is mentioned.
