I'm not really shocked to read that Tory leader David Cameron took cannabis when he was a school boy at Eton. It was about 25 years ago and I'm sure it wont effect his leadership.

Who cares?

You obviously have a lot of time to spare, Mark.

I wonder how much time you have to spare. You seem to follow every post Mark makes. I wonder, is this becoming an obsession?

I really am not interested in following Mark Occomore or David Cameron.
What a load of rubbish.
Show me any 15 year old who wouldn't if they could.
And if the person mentioned was at Eton, I'm sure he would be able to buy more than a bit of blow.

Has anyone asked Tone about his drugs habit ?? His lips would have to move for him to answer, so, you know you wouldn't be able to believe him.

No more than Mark's obsession with posting attention-seeking drivel.

This appears to me to be tabloid news for the Sunday Papers and lazy BBC journalists and/or editors who just seem to read them and use them as headline BBC news.

It's also interesting how often the Conservative Party gets a mention in the R2 news on a Sunday morning , do they do press releases on saturdays when nothing else exciting is happening ?

Ella,

This a news and current affairs section to talk about the issues of the day or week. This is one of the items in all the papers and on the news networks today. What else would you like to talk about? How apples are made?

You have a serious obsession regarding my posts, and I'm not as you say " Attention Seeking" Now I have let you pass by with you comments, if you dont want to discuss the topics I discuss on here, then just ignore them.

Cheers

Mark,
Quite agree, please don't start bickering.
By the way, my Old Lady lost for 25 years item made it into the Sunday Times, so I am feeling smug.

We all do heedless things when we're young.

No doubt if you were to open the Warburton cupboard, a skeleton or two would rattle.

I didn't do drugs, though!

I liked Boris Johnson's story on "Have I Got News For You?" when asked if he had taken cocaine. He said he did once, but sneezed while taking it so that most of it ended up on other people.

What a mess.
On one hand,
I can agree with those who say we all did things when we were young...... ( except me )

but on the other hand,
what signal does this give to young people now?

Only this week I have one of my staff telling me her younger sister (14) has been appointed a social worker and sent home from school because she's smoking whacky backy and getting drunk!!
So maybe now, she see's this on tv and think's " well. it's ok, he's a politician and he's done it"

I'd like to see him kicked out! let's start the long climb back to decency....

Ooh dear SantaFe!
What would have happened to this Country if W. Churchill had been booted out for his drink problem? Young people will be young people, sadly it's only been the past few years that the Press has taken such an interest in digging up ancient scandals.
I bet everyone, if they could do it, would find their Grannies had taken opium, probably legitimately bought from the Chemist in 1920.
And I used to get drunk far younger than 14, if I had an upset stomach as a kid I was given a tablespoon of port and a tablespoon of brandy. Shut me right up that did.

Very Happy Well, no doubt Ernie will inform me the Lusitania has been torpedoed and prohibition has been lifted in the USA..........

but the bottom line is this country is sinking further and further into social decline and education standards are plummeting are they not?

So however we dress it up it's not looking good.

I'm assuming you're saying you got drunk because of your "medicine" but I for one certainly didn't, or remotely want to get drunk at that age.

I was still a kid for sure, doing kid's stuff which didn't include drugs of any kind.

except those sherbert flying saucers.... Shocked

Afraid at that age I had no choice, did what I was told! Wasn't trying to be unreasonable, just putting a point of view.
Yes, I agree this country is going to the dogs (not that I ever have), so I am about to emigrate to a country with no council tax. Soon I hope, but within listening range of radio 2. However, don't think there are any sherbert flying saucers on sale.

You're clearly not posting in a manner that's designed to encourage people to engage in topics of the day in an informed way - and i think you're just attention-seeking. In the leading post of this topic you're just playing into the hands of the Daily "Blue Rinse Brigade" Mail by focussing on Cameron as the leader of the conservative party and thereby hoping to destabilise his position. The so-called "issue" is a nonsense and (in my opinion) a total non-starter. And by discussing it at all you, I and everybody else is playing right into the hands of the Daily Right Wing.

So maybe it would be more useful to discuss how apples are made. On second thoughts.......... they're not made, Mark, they grow on trees. Apple trees.

Ella

I didn't think for a second that you were being unreasonable
but you agree with me that the country is sliding downhill, despite all the political correctness, relaxing of rules and discipline, improved this, better that...
the bottom line is it's getting worse! kids are trying to be older (and getting away with it) too fast, TV is setting good standards less and less, maybe including Radio 2, and our politicians and "celebrities" are fast becoming inferior role models. ( Jade Goody - yuk )
Like you, I'd leave this country as soon as my circumstances allow.

You could say the same about most 'news' stories these days but given that the story about Cameron is the big story of the day I think it was right for Mark to start the topic.
I would suggest that if you don't wish to discuss it it might be better to ignore it.

I think it's rather unfair to suppose that all young people just want to take drugs and get drunk - yes there are some/ perhaps quite a few who do
but 'show me any 15 old who wouldn't if they could' is stretching it a bit

I didn't - there's an example for you (and it wasn't that long ago!)

Me neither - but then I couldn't see the attraction of smoking either, so I suppose drugs were a non-starter with that attitude. For the life of me I can't see how trying to poison oneself will make one feel better. I suppose I must just be wired differently to a lot of people.

Get a life, get a hobby, get some fresh air - most of the good things in life are free, anything else is just a bonus.

But,

do you think Cameron should be allowed to stay in his position or penalised?

If we were to bar people from office due to mistakes in their dark and distant past, I suspect very few of the present incumbents would be where they are now.

I think he's been penalised enough. As long as he's not doing stuff now.

In my opinion this is a perfectly valid news story and as such should be discussed on this board.

It does suggest that Cameron is quite headstrong and has a rebellious streak to his character. Is this good or bad? It depends on the circumstances. A good prime minister usually happens when the events of the day require the character of the incumbant.

Poor old William Hague got a much rougher ride for his 'fourteen pints' tales of youthful excess - yet, the last time I looked, a pint of booze was still legal!

I'd still prefer a discussion on how apples are made!

And who makes them.
