Am listening to it again now Angela - it's like old times having Johnnie on the radio while I'm making the tea! If only it was a regular thing.......

Exactly the same for me, H. Listening while doing the tea. Glorious!

I wonder if he knows how much he is missed from that Drivetime slot even after all this time, and it must be about 15 years on? He sounded really relaxed just like he did back then.

Most likely, I would have thought. It was such a great show, with Johnnie and Sally. I do know that Noel Edmonds tried to usurp JW when he was recovering from his illness, because it's in his (JW's) book.

How on earth did Chris Evans get Drivetime? I can safely say that I've never listened to a single second of his Virgin show. Nor Graham Norton, but that's not because I don't like him.

Oh wasn't Noel Edmunds dreadful during his stint on Drive when Johnnie was ill.

I never listened to a single Chris Evans on Drive let alone the breakfast or him on Virgin. Can you remember me getting banned on the old R2 board for just starting a thread saying that Evans had got Drivetime? I'd only seen the anouncement on the R2 web page for heavens sake so couldn't see what the secret was....... I guess I must have clicked on the page literally as they'd posted it so weren't prepared for the backlash!

My posts were eventually reinstated after I wrote to Feedback.......

He (Edmonds)certainly was, H. What was the 'name' he conjured up to put his stamp on the show? Was it 'Traffle' ?

I heard/read in the week, that he now lives in New Zealand.

I don't think I ever listened to one of the Ginger R2 Drivetime shows, either. At least I hope not.

I never knew you got banned from R2! Or I've forgotten, as they were like the Gestapo those mods. The thing is, if you treat people like that, they tend to rebel anyway. You could put up the most innocuous post and find it taken off in a couple of minutes, because they found something in it that nobody else did.

In spite of them, it was a forum that's never been bettered, in my humble.

Edit: How wonderful that you were reinstated after mailing Feedback!

Listening to Roger Day yesterday morning he played the theme to Saturday Club, Brian Matthew's weekly show on the old Light Programme (did it cross over to R2?). Apparently it would have been Brian's birthday yesterday, a nice thought.

I think it did, H. But not with Brian. They gave it to Keith Skues.

Excellent news.

Yes, I read something earlier in the week, I wonder if it will be the same as on R2?

Even though the Christmas edition of Radio Times doesn't carry Boom Radio schedules, it mentions this as a highlight of Christmas Day radio, and describes it as 'Radio 2s loss'.

Not just us then..... it really does make you wonder what they're thinking at the BBC.

Johnnie Walker and Tiggy have a show on Tuesday!

It made me smile when I read those highlights in the Radio Times Unclebuck!

It was a good programme!

I have listened to both Paul O'Grady's and JW/Tiggy's shows on catch up - I agree they were good. Everyone sounded relaxed and very much at home on Boom.
This appears to be the future!

As a novelty point - there was a show on Boxing Day on Boom presented by Pete Murray and David Hamilton (combined age 181), which I would suspect is a radio first.

Yes I thought they sounded good too!

I caught bits of the Pete Murray/David Hamilton one. Had to chuckle when Pete referred to his show that sometimes went out 'live' from a theatre in London (sorry can't remember programme's name). He said there would be queues to get in round the block and could you imagine it happening now? Hamilton said 'no way, the BBC have no idea how to run a radio station'......! It's not just us thinking that then!

Same here. Ken's settled in nicely as well. Sneak in a few more 60's tunes and we'll all be happy!

Hmmm. Today's top five from 1968 spluttered and squeaked then gave up the ghost altogether after three songs. Both on the radio and online. It's still jumping around for Tom Robinson!

Listening to The Jarmels singing A Little Bit Of Soap on Boom Radio this morning took me right back to nights under the blankets listening to Radio Luxenbourg. A few artists covered it after The Jarmels but it wasn't until Showaddywaddy brought their version out in 1978 that it was a hit in the UK.

Good to hear I Should Have Known Better by the Fabs next record up. 🥰

Saw that Ian!

Apparently it's 50 years ago since David Hamilton began his show on Radio 1 and the 'Everything Stops for Tea' jingle began! Thinking back to the date and year I vaguely remember it.......

Just wanted to make a recommendation for this show. I've recently started to listen more regularly and am really enjoying the music selection, and little bits and pieces about the music.

Friday's show was exceptionally good (not available for catch up unfortunately), even my OH who was on a long journey said to me 'who was the guy on at such and such a time?' when he got home.

I'd never listened to Nicky Horne before hearing him on Boom, although I know his name, so I'd say give it a go!

Nicky Horne's programmes are excellent. The music choices are always that little bit different, but very enjoyable. He is very knowledgeable so I am learning a lot of new things about music I have listened to for years.

Me too Angela! I wish I'd been able to listen to him on other stations but I suppose I was in the wrong part of the country for most of them.

When we lived in Kent I was lucky enough to be able to listen to his programmes on Capital Radio.

Nicky's evening show Your Mother Wouldn't Like It was a must listen on Capital 194 back in the day. He also DJ'd the two Who at Charlton concerts. £3 for the first one in 1974 and £4 for the second, two years after. The line ups were fantastic and even more so, looking back. Happy daze.

I also saw him DJing in a pub. He really was Little Nicky Horne. Capital Radio was a godsend when it first came on. Kenny and Cash doing the breakfast show for starters. Really clever programming, which covered everything. Micheal Aspel mid morning - probably to appeal to the Jimmy Young listeners. I really liked him and even bought Polly Wants A Zebra, his autobiography. Anna Raeburn Agony Aunt was a nice listen some evenings. Loads more besides.

I could go on, and I frequently do, so seeing this is about Nicky, yes. His shows are the best on Boom, by a long way. Lovely anecdotes and pretty decent 'tracks'.

Heard yesterday that it's all change at Boom. Roger Day is going to 2 o'clock and Jane Markham is doing Roger's old slot.

60s at 3 (which is when he'll do them) doesn't have quite the same ring as 60s at 6 somehow. Not a fan of Jane Markham and don't really want her medical man while I'm having my tea!

I don't know what it is with the 'drive' time slot and me on any radio station, I just get into one and off they go for one reason or another! It started when Johnnie Walker was taken off R2 and 'you know who' got the slot........ Same happens whichever station I try.

Oh...when I heard him say that earlier, I thought it was temporary while he was over here promoting his book or something. But you're spot on H, as I've had a look on his FB page.

I do think it makes the daytime schedule a lot stronger though. Jane Markham was afternoon valium.

We'll have evening valium now Raver!

I don't listen to Boom until late afternoon unless I'm in the car which is only 20 mins or so which is when I've heard Jane Markham.

I'm listening to Simon Bates just now, 2-4pm Sundays and to be honest I'm surprised how good it is. It began last Sunday but I didn't hear it.

So far he's played Prefab Sprout and right now it's the Lotus Eaters and Picture Of You. Not heard either of them in yonks so a thumbs up from me!

Oh my. Michael Aspel is going to be on Boom on Sunday October 8th. Wonderful news.

I never thought we'd see or hear him again. If Boom has any sense, they will give him a regular Sunday slot.

Plenty more besides, but see for yourselves.

It should be a great listening day Raver!

There was a good article in the Sunday Times in the podcast spot (previously the radio column) by Patricia Nichol.
