Many of you who were on the Radio 2 message boards, may remember Mike Reynolds who did hospital radio in Exeter and had a superb musical knowledge.

Sadly I've learned that Mike passed away this lunchtime, he would have been 55 this year. He was a huge Popmaster fan and took part in the contest with Ken Bruce in, I think, 2008 and made it to the semi finals of the year end challenge. He had been in ill health and was in hospital but only this morning was playing along to Popmaster with his sister by his bed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mike on a couple of occasions and he will be missed.

That is very sad news. I too remember him from the chat rooms / message boards. I think I did meet with him and a friend in the 2000s some time when I was down in Torquay.

I've just learned of Mike's passing on FB, thanks to seeing Red's comment on a local paper that appeared on my page. Very sad.

He was cheated out of that Popmaster semi. The bloke who 'beat' him took a lot of time to answer quite a few. Ken had him sussed, but was powerless at the time. Since then, they've been very strict about the alloted time to answer.

That is sad news - much too young.

I remember him being very nervous before Popmaster.

Ken has just given the news about Mike to the listeners. He also mentioned that Mike was a finalist, which I thought, but didn't trust my addled brain cell , once Helen had said semi-final, after all these years.

Raver I'm sure it was only the semi final that Mike got to, I'm wondering if I recorded it back in the day. Will check my files!

Just checked out my recording files and I have one dated 18 DEC 2008 labelled 'Popmaster the dubious one', that was a Thursday which is unusual if it was a final as it's normally a Friday I think.

I'll listen back later to see what was said at the end.

Just listened back to my recording and Ken distinctly says 'join us tomorrow for the final to the women who was on and that the 'other guy', a Peter somebody would be the other contestant'. Strange......
