I only just found out about this today (thanks to the letters page in Radio Times!) and the series began Sunday 6th March 5pm.

It's a 1 hour show and I'm not sure how many episodes there will be but from the playlist it's what we are used to hearing from Don which is good news.

Enjoy while you can!

H

PS Just listening to the first episode and Don's opening words were that it would be the same format as his Radio 2 show. Smile

Nice one H! I spotted it a week or two ago and it hadn't started yet. Clean forgot to post it or listen, what with one thing and another. Great news indeed. Thanks a million.

What a fantastic choice of music...and what a song to start with. Overjoyed!

Not being in Radio London's reach I'm thankful for Radio Times (I was thinking of cancelling it the other week but....... it has redeemed itself for this alone!).

He did play some really good songs in that first episode, I liked Dusty's version of Yesterday When I Was Young very much.

At the end of the show 'Sounds' went right into the next programme - Tony Blackburn Soul. Another one to listen back to!

I seldom if ever listen to BBC Radio London since they sacked Danny Baker, which is a good few years now. I stumbled across the Don Black somehow, but it wasn't through looking on their website. Call it fate!

Really enjoyed the first one. I'd never heard Vera sing a song like that before. Never heard Jimmy Durante sing Young At Heart, either. Nice. Lovely Jo Stafford song and as you say, Dusty singing Aznavour's Yesterday When I Was Young is sublime. Her voice was so suited to all those European ballads etc. She could have sung the phone book and made it magnificent. The only song I would swap was Tony Bennett singing Smile for Nat's immaculate version.

Hurray for Helen not cancelling her Radio Times and letting us know about this! Smile

The first programme, in particular, is a real keeper - one classic after another.

Have been a big fan of Jimmy Durante and how he interprets songs for a long while. He has a unique voice.

Once, when Terry Wogan played his Make Someone Happy on his programme he answered a text, on air, I sent in saying how much I loved it.Very Happy

Personally I would have preferred Glynis Johns or Judy Collins singing Send in the Clowns but perhaps being a little picky there....but, think on Don. Wink

Sorry to say that the series seems to have come to an end with episode 6 which aired last Sunday April 9th. I'm recording it at the moment and all the tracks are written by Don himself.

Not sure if it was only going to be 6 episodes or if it hasn't been popular. Shame.

I think it was always going to be 6 shows, H. But if the feedback is positive enough, maybe he'll get some more.

I've still got three to listen to. It sounds like he phoned his part of the programme in. Either that or they locked him in the broom cupboard!
