Here's one for discussion from last night's Look North

A lincolnshire primary school head teacher has banned the playing of tig and other contact games during playtime, for fear of injury.

One pupil said that they spent the time thinking of games to play, but by the time they had thought of one, playtme was over.

Yeah, someone told me British Buldog had been banned and that some schools don't let kids out duringh breaks!!!

All I can say is, I'm glad I was a kid in the 70's - stay out all day, rough and tumble!

I was also a child in the 70's and I remember many a game of kiss chase and British Bulldog. Didn't do me any harm, how else was a shy and retiring young girl supposed to get grappled to the floor by the most handsome boy in school. Very Happy lol!!

Children just don't seem to get much chance at being children these days.
They go from babies into fully fledged little people, rather than having the luxery of those discovery years past generations had. Although It wasn't perfect back then for sure either.

Grass fights during the summer, snowball fights during the winter. Tag, Footy, counting bruises, falling off bikes, cricket with a corky ball, french cricket - the joys of playtime at school during the 50's-60s.

I remember playing "knifie" You and your opponent stand opposite each other on the grass with feet apart. Took turns throwing penknife into grass between feet. Had to move one foot on to spot where knife went in, so gap got smaller and smaller. You lost if you moved your foot as knife was thrown. And this was a good school! Never today! Knife!!
Was this just a Scottish game (I know it sounds like it steriotypically) Cool

I remember it as well, played with a sharp stick rather than a penknife.

Our middle school tried about half a dozen times to ban us playing British Bulldog. When we pointed out for the sixth time that we played it outside school as well, they gave up trying. Remember the knife game as well, but pocket-knives usually ended up being confiscated as those who owned them couldn't resist trying to carve their initials into the desks during lessons!

I read the same story in the paper, I think over the weekend, but they said the reason for the ban was because they thought it inappropriate for pupils to touch another.......... Rolling Eyes
