I am thrilled! Hopefully, this will spell a daytime slot for Pete Mitchell (who I like a lot).

Cool

I only really remember him from Virgin Radio so will listen with interest.

Glad to see he is getting the chance to present on daytime Radio 2.

Guaranteed to have loads of time checks, so no change there from Steve Wright. I'm sure he can re-read the news bulletin and do the weather several times and maybe even lighting up times to fill up the empty spaces where normally a DJ would insert their personality.

So am I, Daz. I loathed Pete Mitchell on Virgin but on Radio 2 (as a solo presenter) I think he's mint.

Pete is a very laid back presenter and has been good sitting in for Dermot on a few occasions!! I suppose the postive things which have been said about him on the Radio 2 MB' have influenced the controller to use him during the day. Shame the message boards are going, so we will have to email the controller with our ideas in the future Rolling Eyes

I will wait for the real confirmation as this has come from you know who.? Surprised

I somehow doubt the controller takes her advice from the MB's. Laughing

BTW has she signed up on here yet so that we can keep advising her? Wink

I suppose if the board is left open to unregistered people' then prying eyes from the BBC will take a look?

Of course they will, Mark. The same thing happened to Nick Birse's old forum and the Radio Rewind forum, which attracted more Radio 2 posters then it did golden oldie Radio 1 fans!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Pete Mitchell's stint on the 2-5pm slot. I really do recommend him for a daytime slot on the station and I reckon 2007 will be the year this happens.

Hmmm. He's very old-school, isn't he? Like those solid-but-unremarkable DJs who used to fill the schedules back in Steve Wright's heyday. Nothing bad, but -really- not much good either. Just sort of *meh*

Agreed. Anyone's better than Wright whose 'ground-hog' show is now sounding just SOOOOOOOO dull and repetitive. However Mr. Time Check Mitchell hardly sets the world alight with his personality does he? I wonder how many people listening have actually heard of him. More have probably heard of Martin Kelner who, arguably, would have made a better and more scintillating, amusing choice of deputy..... with fewer time-checks !!

I can't understand how Lesley Douglas went shopping at Virgin Radio and came back with the least talented of the duo?! It's like Syd Little being asked to do a one-man show at the Palladium!

I'm extremely happy that I can listen to R2 in the middle of the afternoon this week, but IMHO Pete Mitchell's voice is beginning to grate on me - he just sounds bored, even on the rare occasions he tries to put a bit of enthusiasm in his delivery. Sorry, but you can keep him in the middle of the night for me.

Well I for one is very pleased CE is not back today Very Happy Thought Pete Mitchell was very bland, as is Mark Goodier, IMHO, just wonder where are Radders & SM? They have much more personality and a depth of music knowledge that leaves the other two standing.

If they were going to have a minor name from Virgin standing in they should have got Russ Williams. A tad more personality than old snoresville time-check 'Pete the plank' Mitchell. AND Russ has one of the best voices on radio.

MG mentioned something about 'two weeks'.... not long enough, IMHO, although Santafefan and others will be happy enough when he returns, I suppose.

Ahh yes! More personality in his left bollock than in Mr. Time Check's entire body! Another great radio voice too.

Pete is Radio 2 Saturday & Sunday overnights. I think he settled into the show very well as it's the first time he's been heard on weekday daytime schedule.

Evans and Kennedy are off for another 2 weeks. It's nice to hear different presenters than the normal lot who usually cover.

I thought Pete Mitchell was just awful. I had to turn him off after half an hour and was glad to go out. Caught a bit after 4 and it wasn't any better.
I actually thought I was listening to a commercial station without the commercials. Won't bother to listen again.

I didn't listen to Mark Goodier, forgot - that's what switching off does! You forget to turn on and I'm so used to not listening at 5.

Mark, if you look at Nod's response below that just about sums it up for a lot of them!! He certainly didn't sound very professional from the bits I heard.

I caught the last 20mins on the way home. I'm sorry, but I was not impressed. He sounded like a rabbit caught in headlights - hesitant then garbled.

Another of Dame Lesley's signings? Rolling Eyes

Saw his photo for the first time today. I thought he was Mike Myers without the glasses.
Found him as hypnotic as Chris Tarrant. Says a lot about me, can sleep any time with a low voice in the background.
Will be off for another kip tomorrow pm

I have to agree with Helen, IKDJsM and BGsW. Any of these guest presenters who are better known for their work on commercial radio stations remind me of the reason why I never listen to these stations.

They all have this dull expressionless tone of voice that just makes me think they are devoid of any charisma or personality.

In fairness to him I suppose it must be difficult to bring a style of radio presentation to a station which does have it's own unique style but he just sounded uncomfortable. Bobbie Pryor was doing a better job than him.

They must be it says so here...

Actually, I'd enjoy two or three hours of BP more than the bored and uninteresting vocal expressions I got from PM. At least she sounded as though she had a bit of life about her.

The problem with Mitchell is that Lesley Douglas was a big fan of Pete and Geoff. Unfortunately Pete on his own is the audio equivalent of watching paint dry but that didn't stop Douglas bringing him over and putting him in a peak slot where evidently, judging by this thread, few find his monotone delivery and frequent time-checks of any significant edification.

She likes Danny Baker. Why the hell can't she make more of an effort to bring him over?!

You may not like him but at least he's got a bit of personality to his presentation.
