I hear some MP s are moaning about the new passport office security. If people want to be protected in the UK, the passport office will have to carry out these new measures to interview people who require a new passport and take finger prints. I think it will cost less than new ID cards, and money well spent?

I would think the new fleet of government ( no expense spared ) offices and all that goes with them will cost much more than producing plastic cards should.
Why can't retina scans or finger prints be taken at GP's premises??
again, why don't we just let the Americans organise it for us... |

The problem with all these measures is that they target the compliant segment of the population. These people are generally not a threat to anybody. Enforcement of those who ignore the rules usually requires too much time, hard work & resources to deliver results and is too slow for a government obsessed with the 24 hour news cycle.
