Thought I might revive this as it always went down well on the Radio 2 boards. For anyone who doesn't remember, its basically Pick of The Pops without the irritation of Dale Winton! This revamped version is slightly different from its previous incarnation. Instead of one post per day from Monday to Friday, there'll be one every couple of days. And as well as the UK chart from that day in history I'll be including the corresponding Irish chart. Today we'll start off with the hits of this day 25 years a go - 18th February 1982

Interesting to compare the two sets of charts, and reflect upon the sea change in the quality of pop over the five year period. I don't know about anyone else but, although I can remember almost all of the 1982 chart I can recall barely half of the 1987 one. Correspondingly, there's very little on the first one that you won't hear nowadays on Radio 2, but only a half, if that, of the latter one (and three of those were recycled oldies).

OR Does that comment say more about the staid nature of the Radio 2 daytime general playlist and that it's crying out for less familiar content?

I'm not sure. Both charts have their share of rubbish.

1987 has Man 2 Man Meets Man Parrish & Steve 'Silk' Hurley. Five Star is probably on a par with Dollar.

1982 has Kraftwerk, Tight Fit & Shaky all in the Top 10 and J. Geils Band, Olivia Newton John plus Bucks Fizz in the next ten.

I would personally say that Man 2 Man Meets Man Parrish & Steve 'Silk' Hurley just about win the prize out of that lot for awfulness, but its a close thing.

Got to agree with you Ron,I'm definitely more familiar with that 82 chart than the 87 one. I must admit I find it rather disturbing to find the Theme from Hill St Blues and an Iron Maiden track alongside Noel,Keith and Maggie's unlikely effort Rolling Eyes
