The BBC has refused to rule out a fifth weekly episode of EastEnders. The extra episode would air on a Wednesday or a Sunday, the Sun reported.

How much misery do they think we can take? If they up the number of soaps I think I will get rid of the TV completely.

Actually, The Sun is wrong. The BBC have ruled out an extra episode in the "forseeable future." Probably a wise move.

I thought they were saving money? Unless they bring in good scripts it's a no go.

An extra episode of EastEnders would save the BBC money - it would be an extra hour a week using sets and actors that are already paid for. The only big expense would be an extra script. It would deliver bigger ratings than whatever's already going out, for half the price. I can see them putting it on Sunday to bolster the schedule.

I don't want it, as the ITV soaps have gone right downhill since adding episodes and I think it's this sort of attitude that has led to a more general TV switchoff.

Oh good, more pap for the masses. Unless you're a fan of soaps, 'improvement' programmes, 'reality' shows and contests for celebs, you're not particularly well served by TV nowadays....

Well as the cop from "Life on Mars" said on the Steve Wright show the other day, back in the 70's we only had three channels and it was fine!

Less is more.

If there wasn't anything good on the tele, people did something else.

Personally, I hate all these channels.
I only have regular tv plus a digi box but most of it is complete rubbish particularly the gaming and quiz channels! pleb tv or what? plus, to makes things worse, my wife has turned into a channel hopper! even when the ads come on, she's flicking back and forth, normally looking at stupid american programmes featuring spoilt rich kids, glamour queens and other garbage such as Pimp my Ride!!.

I watch Eastenders though.. Embarassed

Like I've said before, my TV schedule each week runs to the "West Wing" on More 4 on a Sunday evening (and they're repeats!) plus maybe ten minutes of "Breakfast" on BBC1 of a morning and maybe ten minutes of News24 each evening. Oh, and "Match of the Day"....

I watch "The Sky At Night" via the Internet since the BBC continually consign it to the middle of the night (BBC take note: most of the show's audience, i.e. amateur astronomers, are usually outside watching the stars at that time!) and the odd documentary, maybe three or four times a month. Having said that, even those are being dumbed down nowadays, "Horizon" being a major culprit, whilst ITV don't even know how to spell 'documentary' these days never mind make one.

I mainly use the TV to watch DVDs nowadays. Must dig out my "Quatermass", "Band of Brothers" and "The Planets" boxed sets to watch again shortly - far better than anything on at the moment....

I watch EastEnders but don't think it's showing much imagination to do another weekly episode.

The problem with EE is the scripts as I said in the above post. The good characters returned likes of Lesley Grantham ( Dirty Den ), Ross Kemp ( Grant ) and livened up the show. Explosive episodes with the butchers, Evans etc and now it's turning into the waltons. Is Phil growing up, it's not really him he's the tough guy of walford.

I remember Anita Dobson doing it and Nick Berry doing heartbeat! Smile

and of course Every loser wins (which did get to Number one I think). Did I miss a version along the way then??

Yeah, Anita Dobson had a hit with the theme tune. Nick Berry did Every Loser Wins because the storyline had their characters entering a song competition. Sharon/Letitia Dean brought their song out as well but it wasn't quite as successful.
