Geoff Lloyd has been missing ff the air for a couple of weeks. He is back tonight but has posted a message to his fans about his absence:
"Apologies for the radio silence these past couple of weeks, by way of an explanation I can offer you more silence. No cause for concern - all is well, and as I write this, the sun is shining and a blackbird is singing atop the extractor fan outlet from the caff underneath my flat. Aaah.
We're back on-air tonight at 8 o'clock. We've been slightly rejigged, which will mean a lot more music, and less frippery and nonsense from us in the first couple of hours, and then business as usual from 10pm. We're not sure how this will impact on the podcasts, but Tony's going to keep his eye on it, and if it's a problem he'll look at doing something clever and technical and therefore beyond my grasp.
Thank you again for all the concern, curiosity and kind messages, and I'm looking forwards to putting on my headphones and talking down a microphone to you later." _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

In other Virgin news, Shane Ritchie has been offered a show on the station. That should keep him off Radio 2, which means Ricky Gervais can appear more often as a guest. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Former EastEnders star Shane Richie is to present a series of shows on Virgin Radio.
Richie becomes the latest TV star to swap the small screen for the radio mic, following the likes of Johnny Vaughan, Jamie Theakston and Tim Lovejoy.
He will make his Virgin Radio debut with an afternoon show on Easter Monday, April 9.
As well as playing music, Virgin Radio said Richie would be talking to the "best of Britain's celebrities and get them chatting candidly throughout the show".
Virgin Radio chief executive Paul Jackson said it was a "marriage made in rock 'n' roll heaven. The conversations between Shane and his showbiz mates could go anywhere - from the stories he's already told me, this is not to be missed".
Richie's show will be part of the "Great British Bank Holiday Weekend" on Virgin Radio, celebrating "everything that's great and British".
"I like to think of myself as voice of the people, friend of the stars," said Richie. "We're going to have a bit of fun here!"
Richie appeared as Alfie Moon in EastEnders between 2002 and 2005. He has since voiced one of the characters on big screen animation Flushed Away, the final co-production between Aardman Animations and Dreamworks.
Virgin Radio revamped its line-up at the beginning of the year with a new early afternoon show presented by Madness frontman, Suggs.
Richie's show will run from 2pm to 5pm on April 9.

Hardly new. Remember Desmond Carrington. Tv soap star turned DJ.
Or David Jacobs. Game show host turned DJ. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Or Jimmy Young - 50s crooner who took to radio when the Beatles & Co. killed his singing career.
It's nothing new. You're in radio because you're either on the way up.... or on the way down!

Mark,
Shane Ritchie article was from?
Your news items are of interest but can you make it clear when you are quoting and where you are quoting from, preferably using the [ quote] and [ /quote]

Yes, I wonder why it was the final co-production? And what happened to Ritchie's multi-picture deal with DreamWorks?
He must have the best agent in the business because he keeps getting rewarded for the slimmest of talent and a dubious personality. He can't sing, can't dance, can't tell jokes, and can barely act - yet companies are lining up to employ him! I don't understand it. |

And the last shred of credibility Virgin had as a rock station quietly turns the light off as it leaves. _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.
