High level rumours, circulating on the third floor are causing shockwaves in Broadcasting House this morning. News of an axe wielding meeting has leaked, leaving a number of Radio 2's Top Broadcasters wondering where their next pay packet will come from. Fed-up of the so called big names calling the shots at Radio 2, the Controller has cut three of the biggest egos down to size by giving them their marching orders. In a heated discussion, Steve Wright, Terry Wogan and Sarah Kennedy, known by industry insiders, as the untouchables, were told in no uncertain terms, to pick up their bowling bags and haul ass.
Ken Bruce will take control of the afternoon show, while Alex Lester, one of Radio 2's best kept secrets will extend his current show to sweep away the outdated Dawn Patrol. The Controller's favourite, Danny Baker, will be moved to Radio 2 with a new style Breakfast Show, and a new format " have I got a Radio Show for you" comedy/music/quiz Programme, hosted by Guest Presenters is expected fill the slot left by Ken Bruce.
More details to follow....... |

Rachel - Lay off the cheese if it gives you nightmares like these!
On a more serious not, I've suspected a Bannister - Dann like blood letting for some time. The lessons of history are about to be relearned.
1. You do not parachute in Danny Baker to replace a well-loved Broadcaster.
2. Isn't 3 hours of a presenter long enough? (Yes Rachel, I know what your answer would be)
3. Having reached the heights of the naion's most popular station, You do NOT make wholesale changes. _________________ Geddon

When it comes to Egos, the three Biggest are surely Woss, Evans and Brand ( but not necessarily in that order) _________________ Geddon

Mark ....no I don't think so ...... but these are the sort of comments I had when I said on the R2 Mb, ages ago now, that Chris Evans was joining.....
BGW Nah Chris Evans doesn't have an ego... he just has a shed full of talent cos he has too much of it to carry around with him all the time. A brilliant Broadcaster, a lovely man and not a bad cook to boot.
Wossy....though is another matter, when I was just little and learning stuff, I looked up Ego in the dictionary .. it just said .. See Wossy...
Russell Brand's time at R2 will be a very short one;-although visually quite stimulating, he's rubbish on the radio. |

Rachel, If he has that much talent, why,oh why doesn't he use it? Only 34 days left until a return to kindergarten radio. Still, I've used the time wiselyto upgrade my prog rock portfolio on the old mp3 player. _________________ Geddon

I've heard tales from one or two people who've worked with him who have a rather different view......though they might agree about the cooking! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

Rachel,
With the greatest of respect for you, your idea of talent & mine are two very different things regarding the above quote. As I'm never likely to try his cooking, I'll reserve judgement on that.
However, I'm more than happy to agree with you regarding Alex Lester's broadcasting abilities. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

It was Geoff... he's only been there for about 6 months...... I expect it will be Liza next week, maybe Hayley. Sam hasn't produced Alex's show for ages, it would be great to have her back...... I've offered of course.... but you know how it is...............I'm not sure the nation could take it.....

Wasn't it Sam who wouldn't entertain the idea of Alex bringing in any Megadeth for his 'Lester's Library' spots? _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

John,
if you have a particular track that you would like playing; try requesting it on the Listener's Library on Alex's pages. He does play really old records now and again...... even a few 78's as I recall. It's gotta be worth a shot, even if you have to use listen again to hear it. Go for something smoochy, he likes those. |
