Newcastle have ended Sam Allardyce's managerial reign after eight months.

The club, currently 11th in the Premier League, said the decision had been reached "by mutual agreement".

He's not really had a good start with injures. Shame on the board getting rid of him after just 8 months. I think these managers have only a small life, then they are out if they don't do well?

Newcastle have a different manager every 6 months.

Im getting pretty tired of people going on about how many managers we get through and saying that we don't give them a chance. I have to say that we don't sack managers because they don't bring success quick enough its because we appoint managers who are not up to the job. Sir Bobby Robson said That's the eighth Premier League manager we've lost this season already. The pressure is too much now in the Premier League.

I'd like to see a manager who has proven success not more mid table managers hoping to get there big break at any club. I just hope we can attract someone like that. Mind you, we pay our players crazy wages why not pay a manager crazy wages.

I doubt we will see the last of this happening this season. But these managers need to get time to blend in to these clubs..

Mark, Sam was the final act of the Shepherd era - the same chairman that appointed such lightweights as Souness and Roeder, neither of which could manage a paper shop let alone a football club.

Allardyce wasn't exactly the fan's favourite when he was appointed last year, because we knew the sort of football we'd get. It might be Keegan's influence, but we're accustomed to playing attacking football - even if we did lose, we'd rather concede four whilst scoring three - the old Liverpool v Newcastle games were the stuff of legend. At least you knew you were trying, rather than setting out to play for a draw. Sam's attitude is to grind out results and play a long ball game, neither philosophy guaranteed to bring the fans onto his side.

"Give him time", the pundits (and you) say - how long does he need for some -any - improvement to show in the team? Judging by the Christmas and New Year performances, we're actually worse than the Roeder era (and that's saying something). You'd expect something to show by now - whilst I'm not expecting a top six listing, I'd expect better performances. His comments about the Stoke game were laughable - he reckoned we dominated the game, especially the first half. I'd like to know which game he was watching, 'cos he clearly wasn't at Stoke's ground.

His signings have been (with one exception - Faye) a complete joke. Barton was a very risky acquisition and stopped at least one further player signing for the Toon. We should charge Barton with breach of contract and dismiss him immediately - I can't think of anything he's brought to the club apart from bad press. Enrique? Alleged world-class defender - frightened of engaging in tackles, more like - when he even gets a game. A complete lightweight, and a weak spot in a laughable defence. Rozenthal? Another lightweight, who talks a good game but who would be outclassed in a pub team. His performance against Stoke was appalling. Smith? Played out of position, and suffers accordingly in midfield. All of Sam's summer signings have actually been dropped from the team more than once this season - there's confidence for you.... There's £18M already - why would Mike Ashley trust Sam with a penny more? Sam must sign players on how fast they can run and how much pasta they can eat, not on potential. He clearly can't motivate players either, but then again, the absurd formations haven't helped the mindset of Viduka (arguably the most lazy forward in the PL) and Owen, who clearly isn't anywhere near his best.

He wasn't Mort or Ashley's choice - Mourinho would be mine, or possibly Gus Hiddink since his contract with the Russian national team ends soon? I'd love to see Jose arrive here - now that would be a challenge, and he'd still have a multi-millionaire to supply him with the cash to build the team. As for my old school-mate Shearer, well, I doubt he wants the job - yet. Remember he's got no experience. I would say he's wanting a manager's job, but he's shrewd enough to go down the Martin O'Neill route before landing himself with a high profile job. It's only really the papers and the radio which are promoting Al for the role - I don't know of many (if any) fans who think he's realistically going to take it for at least ten years.

Good riddance, in my book. Let's get a manager with some ambition, the contacts and reputation to attract some *proper* players (who look as though they want to play for the club) and don't take a hissy fit with the BBC because they're under scrutiny.

Here's the acid test. Ask Man Utd or Chelsea fans whether they'd take Allardyce as their manager right now.... I'd bet they'd refuse point blank.

Not the first manager to prove that what works to enable a small club over-achieve won't necessarily work at a big club expecting real success AND pretty football. And to think he was in the frame for the England job...

Harry Rednapp turned down a £5m a year offer to do the job. Given that he would only last about 6 months in all probability, he might get £20m as a payoff at the end off it for 6 months of torment.

And still it wasnt enough to compensate for the prospect of having to manage Newcastle.

Still the caretaker did well yesterday.............

Cherskiy-Just catching on up positings.

Your post is full of passion, commonsense and sensible comments.

As a life long Chelsea fanatic and season ticket holder I was thinking I could have written the same sort of e-mail about our team and dodgy Chairman Ken Bates circa 10 years ago.

Funnily enough I mentioned to my wife this morning (who is a big Pompey fan) that I reckon Jose M will end up as the next Newcastle manager. She said No for 2 reasons-1-too cold for Jose in the North East and 2-they will be needing a manager who can get them out of the Championship next season as she is convinced you are going to be relegated at the end of this season.

Could the later really be a reality. Indeed after watching Match of The Day highlights last night I tend agree with the pundits-Man U could have had double figures against you-Newcastle were absolutely rubbish/dreadful.

As a football fan I do hope Newcastle sort themselves but remember there is NO divine right for any team to be in the Premiership.

My heart tells me Jose would be the ideal choice but I can't see him coming, since he's really after a club with a proven recent track record, one which he can take straight into the Champions' League. He'd be an ideal choice since he has the contacts, the knowledge and can offer attractive football - and win 'ugly' when necessary, just not week in week out.

I don't know of anyone who wanted Rednapp as manager - despite all of the rubbish being spouted both in the press and on R5 over the weekend, it's still not clear whether he was actually given a firm offer - yes, permission was given to speak to him by Pompey but that's not the same thing as a proper offer. I suspect Mort went cold on the idea when the bit about commuting to the NE came up - I can't ever envisage Rednapp moving to the area given everything he has on the south coast. Getting Rednapp would put us in the same boat as we were in with Allardyce - what's the point.

Today I hear on R5 that "our No.2 choice is Mark Hughes" - where the hell has that come from? Gypsy Rose Lee? No-one on Tyneside has really mentioned him - apart from a list that the bookies have put out and if anyone seriously believes them (especially following the money that was lost when Rednapp 'turned us down'), then they're either plain daft or just practicing lazy journalism. I listened to 6-0-6 on R5 tonight and wanted to wring Mark Bright's neck.... at least Alan Green on Saturday night had a sense of perspective about the whole matter.

There's also a popular fallacy being repeated on R5 and elsewhere that Newcastle are only looking for an English manager (thus the current speculation about Sparky) - the quote from Mort actually read as "we are looking for someone with previous experience of the Premiership" - that's not the same thing as 'an English manager'. Again, lazy journalism.

Comments such as gfloyd's about Newcastle getting rid of managers after only a short while basically show how little people know about what is actually happening up here, but then again, if you've only got the London press, the TV and the radio to go on, then who can blame you? Bobby Robson had the right idea when he said that we don't sack them because they don't bring success quick enough, it's because they're just not up to the task. Roeder, Souness and Allardyce are all living proof of that, all appointed by a chairman who was equally failing to live up to the job.

Hopefully Mort and Ashley will take the time and good sense to make an informed choice, and then back their choice to the hilt. We're not looking for instant success - just improvement, with the hope of success in the future. No-one can reasonably ask for more.
