Must say that I have always liked the guy. He perfomed pretty well tonight. Not sure it will win though Wink

Not sure he'll win either, but , of course I'd be more than happy to be wrong on that! Even if he doesn't triumph I hope he won't languish near the bottom. Either way, it won't be through lack of talent. He did put on a good show.

Well I may be wrong but I think Terry Wogan has just given the commentary of his last Eurovision Song Contest.

If his remarks after the voting of 'I've got to decide if I'm going to do it again' are anything to go by I'd say it was his last. He also he said pretty much the same for Western European Countries.

I wonder if the Beeb are seeing sense and pulling the money out? It's about time that they did.

I thought that too, I think we all knew Andy was never going to win but for heavens sake he did not deserve to come last. Rolling Eyes

It's time we stopped paying for this, it's just gone beyond a joke now.:

Yes, he did seem to lend weight to that suggestion didn't he - but then again, it could have been the drink talking. However, with his Radio 2 contract up next year (as we all know too well) i'm sure speculation will be rife on all fronts... Wink

Perhaps it needs to go back to a jury based voting system rather than the phone vote we have at present.

I think Andy being black probably didnt help, given that much of Eastern Europe is still highly racist.

The whole contest just seems to highligh how backward a lot of Europe still is . Crying or Very sad

I think Ernie you could have hit the nail on the head.

Well it does show Wogan is slowly stop doing things. First it was POV and now maybe Eurovision. His contract is up I think next year? Maybe he feels it's time to put his feet up and relax? Even Radio 2 could see the end of him? Has MRS WOGAN helped him decide?

One person who would sound good on Eurovison is " Gary King " He's a radio broadcaster and seen on QVC electonics and heard on Supermarket sweep.

If Eurovision does continue post-Wogan on primetime BBC (though I do wonder whether it will be regulated to BBC3), I'd put money on them giving the gig to Wossy. The show is only watched by most for the sole reason of Wogan - they'd need the big guns to keep the audience.

To be perfectly honest I didn't like our entry. I also thought Andy's performance was dire. Saying that, I am not surprised that western Europe didn't score any high points.

Something has got to be done about the biased voting from the Eastern European and Baltic States. It's got beyond the joke now.

Perhaps the votes should be cast by a series of judges, one per country? Hopefully, this will stop the politically and biased voting. They ought to rename the event "Eastern European Vision".

As for Terry Wogan, he sounded merry to begin with, but as soon as the voting started I could sense he was getting more and more hacked off. If he does throw in the towel then it won't be the end of Eurovision, but it will be the end of his comical commentry.

I thought the UK entry was pretty poor in my opinion.

The sooner we bail out of this whole farce the better.

I think Andy put on a brilliant performance. It's not what Eurovision is all about now standing up singing like your on Top Of The Pops. It's about dressing up in weired clothes and look like your from something out of space Laughing

Whether or not this was Terry's last Eurovision, it was certainly the last in the Geddon Household.

We have watched it for the last few years mainly for Terry's commentry. However, the awarded points was a joke.

Maybe it is time to restrict the contestants to those west of the old iron curtain. Turkey, Azerbajan(?) and Isreal are not in Europe!

The Baltic States, the Balkans and Scandanavia could each have their own competitions. Austria and Italy had the right idea.

A variant of your idea might be regional rounds, so that say UK, Ireland, France, Netherlands & Belgium were in one round, Eastern Europe in another, the Nordics & Baltics another & Southern Europe another.

Say 2 qualify from each and go into a final round. Voting would be weighted by region as well and no country in a region could vote for another in their region.

I think Helen and Mark have it totally spot on.

Let's leave the rest of Europe to go potty about this waste of money, space and TV coverage. Resurrect "Jeux Sans Frontieres" if you want a truly Euro-competition - now there was "tat" worth watching! Very Happy

Indeed it was, as were the domestic rounds on before the European ones (It's A Knockout) but, of course, if Jeux Sans Frontieres were to be ressurected, it too would be much larger affair now than it was in it's 1970s heyday. Didn't Peter Gabriel have a hit singing it's praises at the turn of the 1970s/80s?

Only managed to see a small portion - my wife gave me earache after three or four of the songs (eg Azerbaijan, France, Spain) had done the same to her.

The UK entry was nothing - it had a "groove" but no discernable melody.

I know we won the thing twice afterwards, but we should have bowed out after Lynsey de Paul failed with Rock Bottom in 1977 - it would have been a fitting end.
