Sir Trevor McDoanld is 'in talks' with ITV to leave News At Ten at the end of the year.

I'll miss him.

You'll be about the only one who will - the relaunch has been a disaster, and Sir Trev is useless.

How can a News Programme be a disaster?

Erm...it's not very good, no-one's watching it, and it hasn't been a much-loved talked-about revival that ITV were hoping for.

Last month it was revealed that the BBC Ten O'Clock News was thrashing ITV's News At Ten in the ratings war. ITV should never have axed News At Ten back in 1999; they have destroyed what was previously a first-class news programme.

Michael Grade should be proud for bringing News At Ten back, and I will continue watching it. I just don't think that the programme is going to last if the ratings continue to fall.

Perhaps ITV should move News At Ten to 9.00pm and relaunch the programme into "News At Nine" (remember, BBC One used to screen their main evening news at 9pm until 2001)? This would then give ITV scope to air dramas and film from 9.40pm onwards. Also, how about ITV introducing a 15-minute bulletin at midnight, 5-nights-a-week?

It still scoops the BBC a lot. This week they had an excellent scoop of the Chinese earthquake. At its best its up to the standard of the 80's News At Ten when Sandy Gall was reporting.

They make a lot better use of the resources the have than the BBC do and manage to employ correspondents that can actually write for & talk on tv. The BBC now employ loads of unintelligble reports like Robert Peston (whats he on - helium?) and that sports editor who seems unable to put a sentence together either.
