The outgoing GCap Media chairman, Richard Eyre, has questioned the move away from localness towards networked programming, and has called on the BBC to hand Radios 1 and 2 over to the commercial sector.
Speaking in a personal capacity at the Radio 3.0 conference, Eyre said: "piping in a mega-DJ from London" would mean sacrificing the key element of local radio: localness.

Not this again. It was only a few months ago some bright spark called for Radios 1 and 2 to be privatised...

No it won't. Commerical Radio will be sounding different soon with a lot of shows being networked. Commercial Radio just want to get hold of BBC funding from the Government. It needs to start and look closely at itself before they write there own death warrant. |

Yes it will 'cos they're soon about to start piping in lift music on an overnight download from Harrods. Oh hang on they do that already do they not?

The BBC doesn't get funding from the government though.

I think it's pretty good overall. It could be worse - a lot worse. It could be taken over by Rupert Murdoch and his clan.
