I heard on the radio the other day that Tony Benn proposed to his wife on a park bench, just nine days after meeting her....nothing unusually romantic in that perhaps but later he bought the bench from Oxford Council and installed it in the garden of their house....now that is romantic....to me, anyhow....Razz

They were together for over 50 years until her death.

Perhaps that explains in his early career when he was in the House of Lords as Lord Stansfield he sat on the Labour benches rather than being a Cross Bencher Very Happy

I can hear people saying now 'Arrest that man for old jokes Shocked )

Can't we all? Smile

Nice story about TB, although he was a pain in my Dad's side....long story and I'll save it for another day and yes it does involve "cross something" not benches but cars!
Night all, sweet dreams x

I think it's sweet, and I have always thought TB to be a man of principle unlike another man with the same initials
