I'd have chosen a character... say Anne Widdicombe... yes, she'd make a good Doctor. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I've seen him in a few things. The Party Animal, a political drama is the one I remember though.

I watched the DWC programme on Saturday afternoon when they were announcing "Who" was next. To be honest, when they showed his face and put the "Thirteenth Doctor" byline underneath, my first reaction was that he was some kind of alternative comedian that used the moniker as a tagline for a stage act - and that the "real" announcement would come along right at the end of the programme.
Not so. My cousin's 9-year old daughter, who's mad-keen on the recent series (and who is beginning to get the DVDs of the original series episodes), was watching with me. She turned to me and said "Oh, no! Who is he?" My thoughts exactly.
I'll give the new guy a chance, but realistically, unless he really gets a handle on the show and the creators pick a good enough sidekick to act as a foil (preferably not Lily Allen, which is being touted at the moment), then I can see him becoming another Christopher Eccleston and lasting only a year - this time forced out because viewing figures are dropping. To me, he doesn't have that little bit extra, based on what I saw the other evening. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I don't think anyone can judge him until he gets the chance to actually play the role. He may be very good. I sincerely hope Lily Allen was put forward as a joke, that really would be the last straw!! There are plenty of good actors available to play the sidekick. _________________ MiS |

I'd like an older sidekick, but whatever happens I don't believe the Lily Allen rumour. Matt Smith's name didn't come up at all in the papers - who'll just print whatever name pops into their heads or is cunningly "suggested" by BBC Wales. I mean, when the head writers decided to use the "female Doctor" joke again it was taken seriously by the dozy tabloid hacks. |
