Taken from The Press Association website.....
Bob Dylan's 1960s protest anthem Blowin' In The Wind is to be used in a TV advert.
In a commercial tie-up that might shock the star's fans almost as much as his famous switch from acoustic to electric, he's agreed the use of the track in a new ad for the Co-operative Group.
It's the first time Dylan has allowed one of his recordings to be used for an advert in the UK.
The philosophical questions the song - originally released in 1963 - poses about war, peace and freedom and the fuzzy, vaguely optimistic refrain it gives in response - "the answer is blowin' in the wind" - made it a favourite of civil rights and anti-Vietnam war protests in the 1960s and 70s.
The Co-op group - which runs funeral, travel and legal services as well as supermarkets - runs its business according to ethical guidelines on environmental impact, fair trade and social responsibility, and a spokesman for Dylan's record label, Columbia, said this influenced the musician's decision to approve the use of the song.
A spokesman for Sony, Columbia's parent company, said: "He has a career based on surprising people, on people not being able to second-guess him. He continues to embrace change and embrace change in music." |

Bob has previously advertised 'Victoria's Secret' ladies underwear in the USA. He even appeared in a TV commercial for the company. As regards the use of 'Blowing in the wind' I suppose it's a way of getting his music heard and at least his voice then wasn't as bad as it is now! Though some might disagree! |

Now Dylan is advertising a cola drink at the Superbowl with rapper will.i.am using the song 'Forever Young'. Another classic song ruined by association, eh Bob? Dylan may be worried about his pension instead of his legacy! |

I wouldn't have thought he'd have to worry about that... |

I found a tape yesterday of Alan Bleasdale talking incredulously about 'Bob Dylan at Fifty!' 'Tomorrow is a long time' as Bob once sang, but time flies is more apt as His Bobness will be sixty eight on May 24th this year! |

I read that the entire advertising break on 'Coronation Street' on Monday February 16th will be for The Co-op using Dylan's song 'Blowing in the wind.' |
