I really like it. I've got her first album, which is enjoyable enough. Sounds a bit like early Avril Lavigne tinged with a bit of country. Which is no bad thing! |

"It's country, Hank, but not as we know it"
Another run-of-the-mill country/pop singer, formula song, key change three quarters of the way through. It has been No 1 in the US country chart for 14 weeks.
It's OK, but if they couldn't break Carrie Underwood in this country with this sort of stuff, there's no chance for Taylor Swift. _________________ Ron |

Ah yes - but Swift has the heavyweight backing of Universal Music, where the person who's job is to get the acts on radio and telly is a certain Lesley Douglas... Expect more than "Record of the Week" on Radio 2! |

Taylor Swift has far more potential than Carrie. Taylor is an ace songwriter & is very cute. Carrie probably has the better voice, but Taylor certainly has the edge with her songs & presentation |

Taylor's CD Fearless is another album I have acquired recently and I like it a lot.I was sold on it by the TV ad-up till then I had never heard of her-but now I have the CD and recognise her for the major talent that she is.I hear she will be making a big screen appearance soon in the forthcoming Hannah Montana movie.

If she is touring in addition to those London gigs then I would certainly be interested in checking out her live show.

Taylor is not my cup of tea from what I have heard of her, but she is featured in this months CMP magazine (or 'Country' as it is now called), with a big article and photo spread for anyone who may be interested.
Meanwhile, back to my DVD of Norah Jones 'Live in Nashville.' Now that's what I call a talent! What a sublime band she has too in The Handsome Family. Dolly Parton joins Norah for one number as do Gillian Welch and David Rawlings for a later song in the concert. |

I'd call her "sexy", actually! _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

That should be the Handsome Band with Norah. Yes she is a beautiful lady too! I saw her in Manchester a year or three back . She surprised us by playing guitar for the first part of the concert before playing the piano after a short interval, for the rest of the show. I first saw her on TV in Jools Holland's programme in 2002. I was knocked out by her Peggy Lee like vocals and her performance of the Hank Williams song 'Cold cold heart.' |

She's very, very talented. Isn't she married to Elvis Costello? _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

This thread appears to have sprouted offshoots
For what it's worth, and purely personal observations...
Diana Krall, who is married to Elvis Costello, has a lovely singing voice and produces highly polished CDs, the latest of which, Quiet Nights, out on June 1st, sounds very lounge and latino.
Norah Jones has a lovely singing voice and is the daughter of Ravi Shankar. She produces nice but sleep-inducing records.
To bring us back to topic, Taylor Swift has no famous lineage that I know of, looks very photogenic and is a triumph of marketing over substance. Her current album is a bestseller in the USA and her record label, Universal, have made sure that its release in this country has been accompanied by high profile exposure in all the music magazines and some of the broadsheets. Love Story is an annoyingly catchy single which has been played to death on both Radio 1 and 2; there is nothing else on the album to come anywhere near it - in fact the album is full of boringly homogenous pop only partially redeemed by the inclusion of three more country-sounding tracks transplanted from her first album. _________________ Ron |
