Musician, broadcaster and writer Steve Race has died at the age of 88.

He was the presenter of R4 and R2's My Music for the entire 27 years of its run and I remember enjoying his musical contributions to the panel game Many a Slip.

He scored a minor chart entry in 1963 with a piece called the Pied Piper but is probably better remembered for his tune Nicola, named after his daughter.

My sympathy to his family.

Ian.

Sad to hear about the death of Steve Race at 88. A first rate broadcaster over several decades on radio and TV. I remember well when he chaired the radio show My Music on radio and then on television on BBC 2 where I discovered there was more to music than pop.

A great favourite of my dad's, the My Music programme also featured Dennis Norden, Frank Muir and Ian Wallace, sometimes John Amis, with Steve Race compering with wit and virtuosity at the piano.

An excellent and informative obituary/biography of Steve Race here

I'm trying to find the dates/years when Steve Race worked with Harry Leader and Lew Stone, presumably post-WWII
