You're missinga good show! Mind you i think Dylans' latest, Together through Life, is the best he's done in years! |

It was a good show. Shame that he didn't play 'Homburg' by Procol Harum in the 'Hat' ½ hour, Still enjoyable though despite that omision. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I love that - and "Conquistador". I was listening to it this evening via Spotify whilst the insufferable one was on R2. _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

Not Desmond's Tuesday programme, but the interview he did with Vera Lynn (four years ago) was broadcast again last week and they added clips of recordings for the iplayer which I listened to today.
Nice to hear Vera talking, some good stories too.
I am disappointed, though, by the choice of records. Most of the programme discusses her time and her recordings with Charlie Kunz, Ambrose and the WWII records, yet none of them were featured, instead we got over-produced stereo records of the same songs made in the 1960s. All those sounded samey, and didn't give a real impression of her early work with the dance bands.
All Vera's original recordings from 1935-1945 are in the BBC library, either the original records or the re-issues on many CDs and I know the BBC has access to them because Malcolm Laycock and Russell Davies have played tracks from them.

He's live tonight! I haven't heard him do his show live in ages. He just had a bit of banter with Fenella. |

There's even a webcam view today. The first I've seen for a few years! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I don't think you can beat Desmond Carringtons shows.
Great music, great host with a real love of music.
I really wish I had recorded Desmonds shows from the past, I have also tried to record his show recently using Audacity but the quality was terrible.
Is it always like that or am I doing something wrong? |

I've not used Audacity so can't really say, but I've heard people get good results so maybe it's your settings?
I use Total Recorder which isn't free, cost me around £6 about 4 years ago, and it's a great program. Someone on the old R2 Shows and Music board recommended it.
I wish we'd had the technology years ago. So many of the shows are timeless and can be enjoyed when you want to listen to them again.

I used Audacity OK, and I'm still using an old version.
You need to make sure you are recording the source, and I usually make sure by doing the setting on my Windows Recorder first, if you know where that is or how to do it, it's in WinXP > Accessories >Entertainment
Open Sound Recorder
Edit > Audio Properties
Sound recording: select the media device in your PC
And then click Volume and select Wave
You'll have to do trial and error settings of the volume slide up/down, mine is set low
That setting should set up automatically on Audacity
Wave setting records anything from internet, youtube, iplayer etc.
So open audacity and record. It'll record whatever is on the internet (I think it'll also record mouse clicks if you carry on doing other stuff)
