As a graphic designer part of my work is doing artwork for panto posters, banners, billboards etc and some of the companies I work with are responsible for producing pantos all over the country. It's amazing how many there are going on in towns and cities across these islands of ours. I find it fascinating that this very British tradition remains as strong as ever and a lot of Aussies and even Americans come over to do a panto season. Wasn't The Fonz in panto somewhere last year?
We went to pantos as kids, we took our own kids, and I don't doubt some of us take our grandkids. To my surprise my 14 year old daughter wanted to go last year and we went to see Cinderella at our local theatre and it was great fun. I know the members of this board are scattered all over the British Isles so I was just wondering if anyone who sees this thread would mind posting what their local panto is this year and who is starring. Would just be interesting to see what's on where and some of the celebs who are appearing in them.

So who you got in Milton Keynes this year?
Down here we've got two small theatres so don't really attract the A listers - it's Linda Nolan as the Wicked Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (think I'll give that one a miss), and D.C. Jim Carver off the Bill (Mark Wingett) as Abanazer in Aladdin (who is the kid who plays Leon in Eastenders) along with Rhino off Gladiators as The Genie, and a bloke off Cbeebies as Wishee Washee! |

So you've got Dirk Benedict off the A team in yours - I saw him in a play recently and he was pretty good. And Stavros Flatley!

Er, see my link above! This year's Dick Whittington stars the delectable Joanna Page who plays Stacey in the wonderful "Gavin & Stacey" in addition to Stavros Flatley. They were at a catalogue launch at the Argos HQ in Central Milton Keynes recently, and my daughter (who works there) said they had staff in stitches!
Oh... and some bloke from the A Team. |

Not a fan of Britain's Got Talent and the like, but Stavros Flatley were the exception. I had tears of laughter running down my cheeks and must have watched it a dozen times on youtube afterwards. Difficult to know how they could top that really, but that first impact of him running out on stage and then just as it was starting to pall the son comes out doing the ballet leaps .... brilliant.
Hearing the guy talk you can tell he is a naturally warm and funny man. Should be good! |

| My daughter said that father & son were lovely to talk to afterwards. I think they deserve their success. They're certainly unique! |

Not normally something that I pay much attention to, but the ankle biter is going to be nearly 7 by then so possibly going to end up at one this year.
No details as yet who are going to star (so no one i'd have heard of)
Although the biggest pantomimes will be the return of jethro and RCBrown

My daughter was upstairs when they came on and she rushed downstairs to see what was making me howl with laughter....I loved them...and the relationship between them was lovely to see.
I was only looking at the posters at my local theatre the other day,Soulsis, for the upcoming panto....I only recognised one name....Alex Ferns ( the horrible Trevor in Eastenders) ....and I don't think it would have immediately clicked who he was without an accompanying photo.

I haven't been to a panto for years ..think my granddaughter, at three, might be a bit young yet although she did sit through Toy Story 3 at the pictures a little while ago. |

You've not heard of Steve Royle Top bloke - been in Phoenix Nights, Max & Paddy, has his own show on Radio Lancashire, and used to be a jester at Camelot Theme Park. I'd say it's worth going to that Panto just for him. |

| I really would like to see more "Phoenix Nights" along with "Max & Paddy's Road To Nowhere". Both extremely funny. Great Friday-night post-pub telly. |
