Anyone on here use BT braodband and Thunderbird for their email ?
After a frustating 30mins talking to a helpdesk in India, and watching them trying to configure the software they came to conclusion they are not compatible. The problem seems to be it can receive emails and appears to send them but they don't go anywhere after that.
If you have BT broadband is your email server 'mail.btinternet.com', POP port 110, outgoing port 25 ?
Thanks |

I switched from BT to O2 about 2 years ago, but I never used BT's own interface or webmail client. It was hopeless.
Setting up your POP3, IMAP and SMTP settings in Thunderbird is very easy. My recollection is the incoming (POP3) server is the same as the outgoing (SMTP) server - ie: mail.btinternet.com
Check whether mail requires authentication on outgoing - there's a check box for it in your account settings.
The port settings shouldn't affect you at all because they normally all do their thing automatically. |

I recently set Mozilla Thunderbird as my email client and had a problem sending mail. I signed in to my email on their website and followed the instructions on the help page. There was something odd about the set up, but I can't remember what it was now though. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

I use Thunderbird on my Mac to handle 5 or 6 email accounts and I recall that one of them just wouldn't go properly. It turned out that the incoming was pop.mailserver.com and the outgoing was smtp.mailserver.com so it's worth double-checking that detail with the BT account. (BTW "mailserver" was my substitution here).
I think, personally, it has something to to with the "authentication" setting. |

Thanks for the advice
I've found that BT have instructions how to set it up on their website, but it is for an older version, I'll keep trying. As you say it should be easy, I've never had problems with emails accounts with other suppliers. |
