|
On a Forum that I have been involved with for some time, John has kindly allowed me to post a link to my board.
We're not in competition as our radio section is much smaller and originally our board came about because of the direction Radio 5 was going and just like Radio 2 they closed the messageboards but in doing so the section that was pleasent and where posters were friendly but respectful of each other had to go through the same problems of trying to stay in contact.
It would be great if we could support each others forums and swell the numbers so if you would like to at least have a read...
Here's a link...
Cheers

And no the forum is not political(I don't know why our forum's creator decided on this name for the site) |

Black background and cat's eyes- looks a bit oppressive to me
The Poltics section is quite politcal too. |

Sorry that you think that Rachel...
I think it might've been once but like all boards you can avoid sections and topics you are not keen on and I think that you may notice the areas that are most popular/unpopular.
I don't think I post in that area much...but like John and his board we are open to suggestions and have added sections at members requests...
Next time Gavin is around I must ask why he had the cat's eyes put on the home page(I think he has a cat as a pet)
Thanks for looking it over |

Yes that was surprise and it was not for long...
I seem to remember it happened when the Radio 2 boards started again.
I think some members felt that people from the BBC were also popping over to read what was being said about their boards too(but not posting) |

Yes one tends to find that with politics forums
Had a look at the forum, the content is good but I don't much like the colour and can't look at it for long, I love the cats eyes though.
I may join soon in spite of the colour, thanks for the link. |

I signed up at the same time I signed up here, and have been made to feel very welcome at both forums - as both were posted up on the Radio 2 board.
There are some really good threads at Gavin's, but not all are visible to non-members. I think Gilders will confirm that some only appear when you are actually signed on?
I do agree about the colour though and have mentioned it. I find it very harsh on the eyes and the text becomes difficult to read after a bit. |

I had a look and it is very hard to read the quoted message where posters have used the quote button when replying, black text on a darkish grey background. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I have made note about the colour scheme and if/when Gavin returns will see if something can be done...I have eye troubles(floaters)so if something is too light I can be affected so I appreciate what you are saying in the opposite direction.
Soulsister is also correct in that some areas are only readable to members to try and protect their safety.
But like John's board we try to be light in our touch and prefer to trust our members to behave.
Thanks for signing up Toggy. |

Was nobody tempted to put it into pre-mod, stating that it was either off-topic or it contravened forum rules in some way? |

Can you solve a mystery for me please?
I looked into Gavin's just now with the intention of registering, but thought I would check to see that "Horatio" was not there and found someone with my name registered there already
As this is in Poet's Corner, and poems are often what I post, I find this strange, any thoughts, for as far as I know I have not registered.
Maybe oldtimer's diesase has kicked in.
Thanks

And that goes for you Toggy and Angela but again thanks for even looking the site over and us working together, at least new and old posters are able to stay in contact... |

The Genuine Sadie Su,
Bad news that you were impersonated, the good news is we can delete the imposter who was deactivated anyhow and if you'd like to join(and thank you for doing so)the Genuine Sadie will be more than welcome.
Some names at our site may be familiar to you already.
Toggy the problem might be the e-mail addy after talking with the other mods, if we can get that sorted you too can be a member.
I think a few members are or have been coming over here in the opposite direction I hope so...
The change of the boards colour might be a bit of a problem from what I understand(There was an attempt to change the colour scheme a few years ago I am told)but we'll see.
If people sign up its a start and one day it may just happen.
Gavin kindly opened and paid for our site when Radio 5 went the same way as Radio 2(change of format)and the boards closed. He tends to leave us to run it ourselves and rarely interferes. |

Hmmm, that's got me baffled too, I'm a mod and I still have to call on my fellow mods when it gets techical...I have been told that the way is open for you to join but this problem is a new one to me...I wonder if it's similar to Toggy's problem?
I must away and investigate... |

Sadie,
I suspect it is an answer to a question to stop spammers...Are you seeing a box with letters and numbers in it that you have to copy? As a mod who was automatically authorised I have never seen any of the things you mention |

As well as the box with letters in it there was a question - to name the child of woe who was the offspring of Mr and Mrs Addams. Easy to look up if you don't know. _________________ Ron |

Strange because your name is on the site and we've also started a thread to say welcome...hmmm
After all the effort you've made it better be worth you being one of our members.
Back to the drawing board to see if we can fix things...
One of my fellow mods has already noticed you are on our members list but have disappeared somehow...isn't technology wonderful
We have Lara already to talk with you and asking if you'll be around at midnight |

Gildy there are those that would give up but I'm an awkward old girl
Now that I’m old I’ll do as I like
Wear unsuitable clothing whilst riding my bike
Washing up needed, well I’ll go on strike
So there
Now that I’m old I’ll do as I please
Have lots of cats and they all will have fleas
So I’ll laugh at the Vicar, who’s scratching his knees
Beware
Now that I’m old I don’t care what you think
I’ll put gin in my cocoa for my bedtime drink
And if you upset me I’ll kick up a stink
Take care
Now that I’m old I’ll leer at young men
Whatever I’ve said I’ll repeat it again
And again and again and again and again
You’ll go spare
Now that I’m old I don’t care how I look
I’ll burn all my toast when my breakfast I cook
I’ll sit on the pavement and quote from my book
Till you glare
Now that I’m old I’ll play radio two
I won’t ask permission from somebody who
Thinks he alone knows what we should all do
Let him swear
When I am gone folks will say “Well by golly
Where’s the old girl with her old shopping trolley
Was I in her will, did she leave lots of lolly?”
She had flair
And up on my cloud I’ll be having a smile
As the funeral procession drives me the last mile
For I’ll come back and haunt you in just a wee while
Raise your hair |

I think I must have had a blond moment and put the wrong email address down before. |

I said it was oppressive, Ron, after another look and the apparent problems with registering, I've upgraded my assessment to "Satanic" |

Goodness me! A forum that has sections on gardening, travel, food wine and beer, pets, sport. computing, culture and arts, general gubbins and chit chat, BBC, the feelgood factor .... satanic?
I can assure you that the members over there are extremely welcoming and friendly and there are some really interesting threads. Yes the colour is hard on the eyes, and yes I too was described as more reader than poster when I first joined, which personally didn't bother me seeing as I hadn't made any posts.
As Gilders has already explained the forum came out of the closure of the Radio 5 message boards, in the same way as this forum came from the original closure of the Radio 2 boards. If it's not to your liking then fair enough, but don't really understand all the negativity. |
