|
|
As I can barely tolerate Radio 2 during weekdays, I'm always looking around for better alternatives (of which there are many). This morning, as I battle to get my accounts sorted out and submitted before the Dec 31st deadline, I'm listening to Radio Caroline. I normally only listen at weekends but I think I've found the better alternative to Ken Bruce. Much as I like Ken, the music is dire, which in turn makes the show much less appealing.
Radio Caroline, on the other hand, presents no such problems. The music is very diverse, the current presenter is knowledgeable about the music he's playing doesn't get in the way of the music in the way that - say - that idiot Evans does, and it's a much more satisfying listen.
The question is - am I the winner of the new John Lennon Box Set? I installed the new Radio Caroline App on my iPhone (on which I'm listening right now) and I was entered into the competition automatically!!!
Fingers crossed. |

Sigh. I thought you said quite recently, there's no better alternative to Radio 2- all the DAB stations are rubbish etc and that's why you're so upset about Radio 2 not being to your liking? If there is other radio shows out there that you like- listen to them and be happy! It's just radio- music, chat, jingles, news, travel weather, all mixed up in a big broadcasting bonanza. Be calm, be happy ommmmmmmmm. |

I certainly never said that there's no better alternative to R2. There's always been better alternatives....... but that won't stop me listening to the bits I do like. Unfortunately, they're getting fewer and farther between.

I do. We're allowed to dip in and out of sources y'know!

Trouble is that I'm helping to pay for the work of incompetents - and Radio 2 seems to be employing an increasing number of them. |

Oh do be brief, not that old chestnut again- we all pay for all sorts of stuff through our various taxes and licences: things that we don’t use and will never use ourselves, some we don’t even see the point of but we don’t join Forums to complain about it- that’s just the way it is. That’s life! Taxes and death. I guess if it makes you feel better- knock yourself out, have a good old blow-out- get it off your chest. It won’t make any difference of course. This place is really like a cyber-pub- we sit around the virtual open fire putting the world right, while sipping on a banana daiquiri and munching a pork pie. I’m suddenly feeling hungry.
Oh hang on, don't forget the Cheese and Onion pasty for Colin... |

Not if you've been having Curry.

Not me, I'd be sinking a pint or two of 'foaming peavo' as your mate Alex Lester would call it, on which subject, did you listen to, what's normally billed as 'Bob Harris Country'? This evening it was actually 'Alex Lester Country' as Bob was off sick. Hope Bob's soon on the mend. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I enjoyed what I heard of the Bubblegum and Cheese Show on Radio Solent (on the I-player). They played lots of Slade and not just the Christmas song. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

Big thumbs up for Amps Off on Planet Rock presented by Nicky Horne. This goes out Sundays 7-9pm, I have been listening for the last 3-4 weeks and if I cannot catch it on Sundays I try to listen again on the Internet during the week. It is a shame that Planet Rock only broadcast at 96kps on the Internet as it does sound noticeably compressed.
However it's a great show. Not a fan of all Planet Rock output but this is really good and eclectic mix of classic i.e. late 60s/early 70s Rock and more modern acoustic and semi acoustic music. Nicky Horne is a knowledgable and companionable presenter. If you don't already listen Colin I think this would be one you would enjoy.
If anyone at Radio 2 had their head screwed on a similar programme presented by Bob Harris during waking hours would be awesome. |

I agree, Nigel, especially as SOT60s and SOT70s are rather disappointing.
SOT60s plays just too many pre 1963 obscurities and SOT70s just plays chart stuff.
A Friday night rock show on R2 would not disappoint. |
