Anyone recall Truckers Hour with Sheila Tracey?
It used to be on R2 nightly at 1AM. I used to love it! |

Did she play Convoy a lot | From what i recall she did play "Convoy", plus weepy things like "Teddy Bear"
There were loads of truckers songs in the 70s, "Six Days On The Road" being one |

My older brother had loads of Truck Driving LPs we used to listen to in the 70s. Red Sovine, Willis Brothers spring to mind.
Some of the lyrics were pretty good little stories - if you like trucks and the American way of life etc.. which I do of course.
I used to like Nitro Express, Gimmi 40 acres ( and I'll turn this rig around ), Girl on the Billboard and Giddy up Go which I thought would make a good TV film. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

used to enjoy it very much i was very into radio then (still am - i rarely watch tv) and i must have been about 12 when i started listening at the turn of the eighties through my headphones cos my mom would have gone berserk knowing i had to get up for school! just my luck when i did become a trucker the show was long gone
when i think of it now all i see is smashy and nicey when they were relegated to a late night spot going...
"and er hello to all you truckers out there!" after every sentence _________________ "Timpani!, Timpani!, They've all got it Timpani!"- All drummers know the pain of skin trouble. |

I was browsing these Bygone posts last weekend and decided to dig out some old recordings.
This is Truckers' Hour from 12 May 2001 presented by 'Tiger Tim' herself Sheila Tracy. Goodness knows how Sheila ended up fronting this, I guess it could have been any of the overnight presenters/announcers.
No 'Convoy' but plenty of country and western tracks. Do British truckers all like C&W then? On this evidence apparently they do.
