For anyone who is interested this documentary is being shown on BBC One Wales at 10.35pm this evening after the main news
It documents the Manics return to their home town which I assume was before their Radio 2 gig in January broadcast on Radio 2 which I was lucky enough to attend
As far as I can tell it is a Wales only broadcast but of course can be accessed through Sky and other digital services
It should be an interesting programme _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I watched the programme which I did enjoy but it was a little thin on the actual documentary stuff and mainly contained extracts of the Radio 2 gig which I saw live and most of which was previously shown on the red button
There were a few interesting snippets including the fact that the lads apparently think that they are only the second best band to come out of Wales the first in their view being Badfinger who I didn't even realise were Welsh and of course we were only talking about them recently on another thread here
It made me think just how many superb artists a small country like Wales has produced over the years such as
Amen Corner from Cardiff
The Alarm from Rhyl
Stereophonics from Aberdare
Catatonia from Cardiff
Feeder from Chepstow
And probably many others not to mention Bonnie Tyler Mary Hopkin and Sir Tom Jones _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I'm not sure I'd call old Shaky a 'Superb Artist' Schiz but I suppose he's OK if you like that kind of thing
I deliberately didn't include Charlotte Church either for the same reason
Now if you were to mention Dave Edmunds that's an entirely different kettle of fish
Or even Shirley Bassey for that matter _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Ruddles: I was only joking when referring to the awful Shakin Stevens. Simply a bad karaoke singer doing appalling cover versions. |

He played some Rag gigs at my college in Plymouth and he was great! (Used to insist on large volumes of Whisky in his rider though). |

Colin: that might have been before he was famous. I believe he did rock 'n' roll stuff earlier on ('Hot Dog' was pretty good). |

Yes, it was between 1973 and 1976. I think he got a bit, er (how can I put this delicately?) "up himself" after that!
By the way, did you know that King Crimson's one-time Violinist and Mellotron player, David Cross, who played with the band between 1972 and 1974, went to my college? He was, I have to admit, there before me, but my cousin was in the same class as him in school.
See. It's amazing what you learn on these forums! |

Hedgehog, I missed that but I did hear the interview on the Dermot O'Leary show yesterday
I don't usually listen as I can't stand the man but on this occasion I made an exception
It was quite an interesting interview _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
