Sixties singer Kathy Kirby has died at the age of 72 it has just been announced
Her real name was Kathleen O'Rourke and she was brought up in Ilford Essex and represented Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest in the mid 60s and had several other hits the most well known probably being 'Secret Love' and 'Let Me Go Lover'
She was a successful and much respected artist at a time when girl singers such as Sandie Shaw and Cilla Black etc dominated the female music scene and I'm sure she retains to this day many fans who will miss her greatly _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Oh yes she was fabulous to hear and to look at it. She was 'discovered' or managed to stardom by old band leader Bert Ambrose; I expect stories will come out now that they had a romantic thing (he'd had a 'romantic' thing with another blonde singer in the 1930s, Evelyn Dall).
But yes Kathy Kirby, 60's icon; farewell kathy. _________________ -

Sad news, she certainly could sing. I always liked her version of Secret Love.

I'm sure I remember Stewpot mentioning on one of his programmes that he'd tried to do one of his phone interviews with her for his Sunday show, but she'd become a bit reclusive and didn't want to talk or even be reminded about her career. _________________ Minx
