I can't reply to your note in the Admin section, John, so a quick post here to say thanks for making the connections for me externally.
Over the last few months since last posting way before Easter I've had the odd PM here and there asking me why I'm no longer posting or whether I can help with technical problems. I hadn't been able to log in because I decided to curb my forums participation in general. My solution was to set myself unmemorable passwords as a deterence to posting!
The big problem is that curiosity has a habit of killing the proverbial cat - such as when you get an email ping telling you that a PM is waiting!
I'm back on track now after a bereavement in the family (following a long illness which consumed a large amount of our time) so I feel I can afford to be distracted somewhat.
This forum isn't very busy is it? Best try and spice things up a bit!  |

Nice to see you back Colin and hope things are getting better for you
I did send you a PM a while ago just wondering how you were but it wasn't anything of vital importance
It has gone very quiet on here over the last few weeks with seemingly so many former regular posters no longer being around but I suppose every forum goes through phases like that from time to time
Anyway nice to hear from you once again

Thanks Rudders. Oh, and by the way, you being a legal beagle and all that, can I just echo any advice you may be inclined to offer with regard to people's having a Last Will and Testament. Our life would have been hell without one!
It was bad enough, anyway, given the additional bureaucracy required post-Shipman! |

Hello ColinB, and thank you for calling by, this place has gone real quiet recently. I just wonder if the listenership of R2 has gone down by a similar percentage!
Not just this forum, all the music-based forums I post on are v e r y q u i e t now

I very nearly did - not because of Lowestoft itself (although the last time I was there it rained all the time) but because the Premier Inn at the top of the town near Tesco on the A12 offered WiFi that was useless, and neither my iPhone nor my laptop could get a 3G signal. Aaargh!

A lot of the traditional-style forums are quiet, actually. I think the new "social media" portals have changed the way people use the web in terms of the way they interact with others in any given social group or virtual community. |

Good to see you back amongst us!
In reply to John's question about Radio 2 listenership being down similarly to that of the forum. Well I can only speak for myself but my radio listening in general is down and it's sometimes difficult to get back into the habit. Maybe the summer has something to do with it...........
It's hard to post about something you didn't hear, but maybe we are just having a bit of a rest?

Regarding usage - I can only speak for myself, but I simply don't listen (or care) about Radio 2 enough to write about it here anymore. The station has changed, and I've found other things to appeal to me. |

Welcome back Colin. May I add my commiserations on your bereavement.
Ian, re Radio 2, I've been enjoying the usual Friday night/Sunday night programmes as well as some good series during the weekday evenings, notably Parky on Mondays and others including Satchmo, Sounds of the 20th Century etc.
Daytime Radio 2 as usual is a no-go area for me. |

Yes, I do listen on Fridays, but there hasn't been a documentary that's really appealed to me lately - seems to have skewed too much towards soul and jazz, which I'm not really into. |

That's the same for me. Last week, I listened to an hour of Radio 2 in total - and that was because I hit the "record" button in Tune-in Radio on my iPhone at 9.00am, Saturday, so that I could play it back whilst driving an hour or so later. I even missed POTP (because the years weren't of interest to me).
Other than that, I listened to nothing and didn't miss anything at all really. |

I'm sorry to learn of your bereavement Colin. My condolences to you & yours. I, too, suffered a bereavement back in May when I lost my mother. I was at Popham airfield last Sunday and heard that a fellow aircraft enthusiast also lost his mother around the same time. It seems to be a bad year all round.

Like others have stated on this thread I listen less and less to Radio 2 and also only look in on here a couple of times a week.
I have rediscovered some other favourite past times which keep me amused etc. |

I must admit i'm not tuning in as much though if i am having a sleepless night i do put R2 on Huey Janice and Alex also a bit of bob. Site is a bit quiet but as posted above alot of us arent listening

I must say that I love TuneIn Radio on my iPhone. If I wake early I just plug in the earpieces and stream radio stations from anywhere in the world (even though I listen mostly to Radio Caroline this way, I must admit). When in the kitchen, I just slot it into the dock and turn up the volume.
The other day I was listening to a San Francisco station that made great listening. It all makes Radio 2 sound increasingly naff these days, it has to be said. |

Our 'sister' forum R3ok is also very quiet (I handed over mod duty after an election couple of years ago) and it's really become a cliquey chat place with more threads about allotments, Italian restaurants and boiler repairs than music.
But when the Beeb closed the R3 boards last year the FoR3 forum was resurrected by the FoR3 site and since Nov last year it boasts about 700 new members and 65,000 posts which is good going considering R3 has less than 20% listeners of R2. Some serious music talk going on there, much of it well above me, a thread for each R3 programme and a thread for each Proms concert.
Big topic is dumbing down of the Breakfast programme.....
