Radio Caroline is a much better option on Saturdays - SOTS and POTP excepted.

Headline is misleading - it's Al Murray, not the Pub Landlord. A good bloke, I'll be tuning in.

I like Al Murray. He presented a set of programmes for BBC4 a couple of years back in which he assessed post-modernist art* in Germany (yes, really) and it was fascinating. He really does know his stuff and delivered the programmes with passion and conviction. Al Murray certainly is a different bloke to that pub landlord geezer!

* at least I think that was the topic. Ironically, he loves Germany - unlike his alter ego!!! Smile

The Pub Landlord is a brilliant comedy creation.

Al Murray is an intelligent, thoughtful and humourous man. He should make an interesting listen.

You could all do yourselves a big favour by watching Al's "Road To Berlin" series, about events after the D-Day landings- superb television.

I've only seen bits of his pub landlord character and have to admit I don't "get" him.

I'm not over impressed with him from what I have seen Eileen

However I'll happily give him a listen on the basis that virtually anything has got to be better than the truly dreadful Mr O'Leary Rolling Eyes

I was driving up the M1 from London yesterday afternoon with my 27-year-old son and listening to Dermot (for some reason!) and my son commented: "This bloke can't half waffle for hours about absolutely nothing. What the hell is he talking about?".

I tend to agree with him. Just shut up and get on with playing some decent music Dermot or give way to someone who will!

We didn't listen for long. My son put on the Rolling Stones' masterpiece, "Let It Bleed". He has good taste, does my boy.

I've tried many times to listen to his show. It should be good, it's at the right time for me and it has good elements eg live music and interviews BUT as you say he just waffles, I don't last long before I switch off Rolling Eyes
