This will come as a surprise to many people but I only just found out that Jamie is to be hosting the new jazz show on Monday nights on Radio 2.

Nobody can replace the legendary Humphrey Lyttleton, that much goes without saying.

But Jamie is a great personal favourite of mine and I enjoyed listening to his shows on thejazz before that DAB station was very unfortunately taken off the air.It does remain on Sky Digital but is now non stop music, no presenters and shows.

Jamie's show was a cool mix of chat and an eclectic choice of music, one which for me used to follow on brilliantly from SOTS and continue to get my weekend off to a great start.

If the same sort of mix comes to Radio 2 on Monday nights-and there is nothing to say that it won't-then I think the station is on to a winner.

Good luck Jamie.I will be listening.

Hi John,

Yes I noticed this last week when I was checking out Chas Hazlewood's playlist and realised then that Jamie was starting up on 11 Aug. I will certainly give Jamie's show a listen either on the night or on iplayer; the playlists will determine whether or not I like the show Smile

Yes I might well be on the Listen Again feature as well. The thing was with Jamie's show on thejazz that it was a good mix of old and new, and, not being an expert by any means on jazz-just an enthusiastic fan-I found that listening to thejazz at convenient times in general and Jamie in particular was very educational for me.

I hope the education will continue on Monday nights.

I'll definitely listen to his show, though I don't know too much about jazz.
Hopefully he might even play one of his own records as you never get to hear him on Radio 2 anymore.
What do you think of Catching Tales, John H?
I think it's an absolutely superb album which is ignored by most people as he has the "Jazz" label stuck on him

Hi gazmando

I am a big fan of Jamie's so I am hoping that he will play some of his own music.Catching Tales is a brilliant album, and I am waiting patiently for the follow up!

I now realise this is only a seven week series.Still, if it's as good as what he was doing on thejazz I am sure it will lead to more.

I'm not a big listener (at all) to Jamie's programmes but this one (a repeat from 2013) caught my eye on the website schedule...enjoyed it

Jazz at the Movies.

From Al Jolson to Jean-Luc Godard

Jamie Cullum shares his love for jazz and the cinema. In the first of this two-part series, Jamie looks back to the earliest days of jazz on film, the struggles faced by black artists and performers and Duke Ellington's remarkable early work 'Symphony in Black'.

He reveals how the cartoon character Betty Boop broke down many of the racial and sexual conventions of the time before she too became a victim of the Hollywood censors. And he celebrates two of his favourite films - 'Anatomy of a Murder', with its perfectly judged Ellington soundtrack, and the edgy brilliance of Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless (A Bout De Souffle). Featuring the French jazz genius Martial Solal and a rarely heard archive interview with Duke Ellington himself.

Thanks Becky, I must listen to that. Although I like a lot of jazz, I don't listen to Jamie Cullum as I have found that he and I have widely differing tastes.
