According to The Guardian's London2012 Blog, a group of council tenants have lost their high court battle to prevent surface-to-air missiles being stationed on the roof of their tower block during the Olympics.

The bloke sat up on the high seat wearing the silly hairpiece, Mr Justice Haddon-Cave, said: "The law and the facts militate against the claim for judicial review. In my judgment the MoD's voluntary engagement with the community and residents in this matter were immaculate."

I wonder if, in keeping with London2012 Legacy plans, they'll be allowed to keep it afterwards in the same way that the torchbearers have the option to retain theirs? I wouldn't mind one; it will be handy against the neighbours' cats.

Here's a shortlink to the story: http://goo.gl/D4Ynb

Torch bearers can only keep their torches if they are prepared to pay through the nose for them!!

I guess that means that the price of the rocket-launchers will be sky high.

This has been going on for sometime. I'm sure the MOD have got it all planned out. Yes they could be a sitting target and could do collateral damage. Have we had intelligence that planes will be high jacked like 9/11 and over powered? There are special agents travelling on planes now which is costing a hell of lot of money to airlines. There was problems at airports with break down of security and now that has been stepped up. Do we also have intelligence that we will have a 7/7 style attack? Hopefully we have people monitoring cameras non stop. I guess the Euro-fighter Typhoon will also bring down a plane before the missiles are launched.

I don't know what the residents are complaining about

When they renew their contents insurance and are asked whether they have any additional security measures to cover their goods they'll probably get the cheapest cover in Britain Laughing

I doubt there's much chance of much robbery or burglary there in the next few weeks Smile

It's all OTT, of course, and only being done to give the impression that we're being protected against the Blue Meanies.

In reality, The Home Guard will make sure that we're OK. Don't panic!!!
