Just 2 days left to listen to this programme, with Richard Hawley presenting, about the backing group who emerged from the shadows of Cliff to become famous in their own right

Richard Hawley presents a celebration of The Shadows, arguably one of the most influential British groups of all.
As George Harrison pithily observed, 'No Shadows, No Beatles'.

On the 50th anniversary of the release of their 2nd LP, Out Of The Shadows, Richard Hawley looks back at their lengthy career.

I will give this a listen because I like Richard Hawley - he's a real no nonsense down to earth guy - and yes the Shadows were extremely important in the evolution of music in the early sixties Smile

I like Richard Hawley as well. He's a very good songwriter/performer and definitely appears to have his head screwed on the right way!

This was interesting but unfortunately my recorder missed the end and so did the Listen Again facility. Richard Hawley is always worth tuning in for! Smile

All the great 60s guitarists claim Hank Marvin as a great influence (Clapton, Page etc) and if George Harrison really did say 'No Shadows No Beatles' then I dread to think how music would have turned out without the Shadows.

That said, I didn't like them! The only good record they did IMHO was Wonderful Land which is fabulous. The rest of their stuff...awful.
