Composer Marvin Hamlisch had died aged 68.

I remember him playing live on Gloria Hunniford's afternoon show on Radio 2 on more than one occasion. One from Chorus Line and Nobody Does It Better are 2 of his songs that I liked.

I love this one...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlg2svEAh-w

It says in the article he wrote it but in Wiki (never knowingly wrong Smile ) it says

The song was written by Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman, scored by Marvin Hamlisch

I don't know what 'scored by' means but I do know it's a beautiful song.

I can't really say that I ever had much enthusiasm for his music - quite a fair amount of plagiarism I always thought - but he is undeniably one of the most successful arrangers of the last half century and for that you have to give him credit Smile

A rather nice tribute to Marvin in the second hour of today's Elaine Paige show. She does say the theme from the Sting was an adaptation and I don't think anyone ever said it was anything else.

Your favourite features in the first hour Becky!

Me neither Becky!

I'm glad you enjoyed it, there were a few bits I'd forgotten all about included in it.
