Yes, I too heard Helen's request. Excellent.
Superlative show for Mr Walker's last stand-in for the time being. Pipeline is one of my all-time favourite instrumentals. The Paul Revere one was new to me but well worth resurrecting. Thanks too for remembering Buddy Holly today (he died in 59 but Brown Eyed Handsome Man was a hit in 63 so is eligible for inclusion).

Hi John
Yes it was me . I was somewhat gobsmacked as he read the whole email out, apart from me saying that I thought I'd better get my skates on if I wanted to have him play my request before Brian came back!
It was for all of you on here as well!

Nice one Helen. You did better than me, I emailed for a request a month ago for a mate's 60th but no luck
It's getting a bit surreal. Last week I woke up to Johnnie reading an email reminiscing about Sompting Village Hall which is thirty feet away from my bedroom and this week it's Helen mentioning the old R2 boards. _________________ I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. |

There were some great tracks on todays show.
To tie in with the anniversary of Buddy Holly's death I'd forgotten that of course it was that same night that Bobby Vee got his break as he appeared on stage that night instead of Buddy.

I am glad you got your request Helen because I love that record. Some people reckon that with its chunky orchestral backing it signified the "death" of rock and roll.
I don't really think it's a rock and roll record at all.To me, it's a pop record, and along with When You Walk In The Room by The Searchers, in my opinion one of the finest ever and I never tire of hearing it.

Hi John
It's a great favourite of mine too. It always cheers me up whenever I hear it. It Doesn't Matter Anymore - Buddy Holly of course, Dusty's I Only Want To Be With You, and the Beatles' She Loves You are a few others.

I particularly liked the bit about the 'defunct R2 message boards' |

I have really enjoyed Johnnie Walker sitting in for Brian Matthew, when the time comes he would be a worthy successor. Wish he could do Pick of the Pops instead now.
Well done Helen May on getting your email read out. I never do, not even a text on other shows!
Best wishes

Like you Angela, I never seem to get my requests read out on SOTS; strange how they choose the requests as I have heard Brian read out the 2nd & even 3rd requests for some AVIDS. Good to hear Helen's request when I listened last night, almost as good as getting your own played when you kind of know someone that has been lucky. I did get my "Cruisin'" tracks played by Johnnie, about 2 years ago now.
