Former BBC newsreader Kenneth Kendall has died at the age of 88.

The one-time presenter of the popular UK game show Treasure Hunt suffered a stroke a few weeks ago and died peacefully, his agent confirmed.

He joined the BBC as a radio newsreader, later moving to television.

Very sad news. I can remember him reading the news when it was black and white only.

Indeed Helen - apparently he was the first newsreader on television despite many having done the job on radio earlier Smile

He was first seen reading the TV news in September 1955, staying in post till 1961 and returning from 1969 to 1981.
