Anyone else set to welcome the return of the Ewing family and Southfork with its gale-force winds etc? I am  )
The only reason I got hooked on Dallas in the 1980s was down to Wogan. I was a regular listener back then and he used to send up the show like nobody's business so I felt I was missing out by not watching.
Lucy Ewing is always referred to as "The Poison Dwarf". Am I right in thinking that it was Wogan who coined that name for her? |

I'm not a fan of Dallas or Wogan for that matter but I know many people loved the series and I'm wondering Eileen whether you are talking about repeats of the old episodes or a new series altogether
If it's the latter then I think generally reviving old TV shows is not a good idea as it's just not the same second time round whereas if it's a case of them reshowing the old stuff then probably a lot of people would appreciate that and I would guess that there would be a whole new audience who don't remember the original series

I loved Dallas so looking forward to its return!
We saw probably the 2nd or 3rd episode on our first ever trip to the US, California to be precise, then when we got home it started on BBC and I was right back there!
We have friends who now live near Dallas Airport so we visited Southfork about 5 years ago. My pic on Twitter is of me standing on the bedroom balcony overlooking the swimming pool. The house is a lot smaller than you think but fantastic to visit. As we turned onto the long driveway up we couldn't resist singing the theme.......... Sad, I know!

PS as far as I know it was Wogan who coined the Poison Dwarf name!

I loved Dallas (until the shower scene  )and used to long for JR to get his comeuppence I think I'd give it a go if only for the nostalgia factor...
I remember well the night of the much awaited "Who Killed JR" episode. We had settled down to watch when my brother called round... instead of the usual offer of a drink he was told to shush and sit down....
As the episode unfolded and we were about to find out who the culprit was my brother went to the bathroom ..a minute or so later the television, and everything else went off, and we all sat there stunned ...hearing laughter from the hall we went to investigate ...my brother thought it a wizard prank to turn the electricity off at the crucial moment ...  he had come round especially for that reason....we did manage to get the power supply on before the murderer was revealed but only my brother thought his prank funny ..
Must have been a lovely experience to be at Southfork,Helen....and I would have sung the theme tune, too, if I'd been in your place.. |

Dallas is already being shown again on one of the FreeSat stations... CBS Drama probably.. I have it series record but to be honest, I'm fed up with watching it again already. ( the same goes for Cheers too )
I was a big fan back in the day and I was totally in awe of JR.. I much preferred him to his goody goody brother! 
I recall one night I had a very irate Boss on the phone demanding to know why I wasn't in doing overtime... "I'm watching Dallas" I said.
"DALLAS??" he exploded "I need you here now boy" he blasted, slamming the phone down ( I did report in after the show..  )

It was Becky! There is a museum of sorts with films of various characters, some of which I must admit I'd forgotten about. Then there were pics of the hairstyles etc.
We also went to Fort Worth Stock Yards (our friends live about midway between Dallas and Fort Worth) where the cattle markets were in bygone times with the big canning companies like Armour etc. There is a big station and the long trains would transport the meat across the country. It's all touristy now but nice. It's also where 'the Cattleman's club' is which JR Ewing would often refer to on the show. They do a cattle run down the main street every day and it's very authentic, a lot of the stores sell cowboy stuff. We bought some Christmas tree decorations in the shape of cowboy boots for the tree!

Going by the photos in the papers Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray have worn pretty well and will be playing their characters in old age.
Apparently the respective sons of JR and Bobby are at loggerheads over John Ross's ambition to drill for oil on the Ewing estate which was expressly against the wishes of their late grandmother Miss Ellie. Bobby's (adopted) son is the good guy (natch) into green energy etc. A wind turbine on their patio might be a good start !
I'm pleased to note that other original characters will be turning up like Cliff Barnes, Ray Krebs and Lucy Ewing, the aforementiond Poison Dwarf .
Oh how it all comes flooding back .
PS Helen, it sounds as if you had a great time on that visit and, like Becky, I too couldn't have resisted singing the theme tune (I can hear it in my head now although I haven't seen the show in donkey's years!) |

| Is it a newly-commissioned series? If so, I predict it will run for one season and then the US commissioning network will drop it. It's a daft (and deeply unimaginative) idea! |

It starts in the US tonight apparently. Got in the car to hear Steve Wright playing the theme tune this afternoon. I didn't hear any mention of when it will be shown over here though.

Thanks for that Becky! I missed the first hour of Drivetime so may listen back. The picture with the house in the background brings it all back to me.
I must ask our friends if they watched it as they only moved to the US in '99 so were here when the original series went out.
I hope it lasts longer than Pan Am did! I actually enjoyed that partly for the historical bits and for the airline intrigue which did ring true even though I first worked for one in the early 70s rather than the 60s when it was set. Life was a lot simpler then!

More news on the return of Dallas...
A second series has been commissioned "after the show's comeback proved a ratings hit."
Veteran cast member Larry Hagman, whose character J.R. Ewing was famously gunned down in a 1980s cliffhanger, tells Britain's Daily Express, "I hope I don't get shot again. If I hold out for more money this time they might kill me off."

I watched them both last night as I forgot on Wednesday night as well. They were on from 7.55. Maybe they will be on Channel 5 catch up from today?
It was great to see it all again, Linda Gray looks fantastic. Brought my visit all back to me! I've a photo of me on that famous balcony overlooking the swimming pool!

| I watched and really enjoyed it. A couple of familiar characters turned up besides the main three. I won't spoil it by going into the plot details but apparently in JR's case the cure for depression is the prospect of a good old family feud! |

The pantomime season has arrived good and early with the return of Dallas .....lots to boo and hiss from the off...... ..won't say any more because Helen has yet to watch the first one..
Good to hear the theme music again and see that split screen.. |

| I remember working on an editing job for a corporate video client (I think it was Xerox) back in the late 80s when we built a sequence which emulated the Dallas opening title sequence with the triple screen elements. It took several hours in a suite costing £120 per hour! Today, I can do that really easily on my Mac editing system in less than an hour using professional industry standard software that costs £129.99. That gives an indication of just how technology has changed between the old Dallas and the new Dallas! |

Watched my recording last night and it was good! Lots of plots simmering there as well.
Amazing how big the ranch looks from the shots but it is quite small when you get close up, even though there is all the land roundabout.
