For no reason in particular I wasn't too hopeful for this programe but adore Eric Morecambe so gave it a go and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. I thought Miranda did a really good job of it ... her admiration of Eric showed throughout

I found myself laughing out loud (again) at some of the sketches....Laughing

Much as I loved the pair of them I wouldn't want those blue statues outside of my house

No blue plaque on his house!!...Shocked ...questions should be asked in the house!! Very Happy

I recorded it last night and watched it this morning. I like Miranda and thought it was an excellent programme. It certainly covered a lot of ground but didn't feel rushed. She has a lightness of touch and was brave to show and laugh about those early embarrassing efforts of her own. I've seen Eric's statue at Morecambe and photo'd it and enjoyed the way Miranda chatted to him.

It was so interesting to see the parallels between her and M&W comparing the early days of writing their respective letters to the BBC asking for someone to see their work. I loved the interior of the Winter Garden Theatre in Morecambe and the wonderful clips of M&W in action, especially the ones I'd never seen before.

But oh dear... those statues ... ghastly or what? No wonder they were evicted from Regents Park.

And yes, Becky, it's quite extraordinary that there is no blue plaque on his birthplace!

Re the blue plaque,Eileen, I feel a campaign coming on... Very Happy

One of these days I'll go and see his statue.

The Winter Gardens building looked deserted....is it I wonder?

Didn't see the programme so don't know how it was depicted, but the Winter Gardens is pretty much a shell nowadays. They open up for tours and events but it's a long way from being able to be used as a theatre, which is a great shame.

It is.... Sad

I read this on-line....

"The theatre closed to the public in 1977 and was listed the same year. It is considered to be one of Morecambe's most significant features,[1] and a campaign for its restoration has been ongoing since 1986."

Just another endorsement - I enjoyed this programme for many of the reasons already mentioned.

My kids watched this, just because it was Miranda, and it was good to see them inadvertently picking up some British comedy history. It's sad to think of a generation for whom there are no TV comedy heroes. We were very lucky.
