This morning I was very nearly mowed down on the footpath outside our house- well just up the road a bit actually, by an enormous nurse, in uniform, riding a bike with one hand on the hadlebars, while holding a cigarette to her mouth, smoking with the other. Oh sorry, she said, it's too much of a risk to ride on the road.

That's cyclists for you - most are a public menace who should be totally ostracised by the rest of society Smile

Next time it happens you could point out that cycling on the pavement is an offence under S72 of the Highways Act.
You may have to cover Hooby's ears so he doesn't hear the inevitable response, though.

I've found that if you drop your shoulder slightly so that slight contact is made that the errant cyclist loses their balance - the passing lorry is just a coincidence.............. Confused

See it all the time. Road rules don't apply to cyclists. I say make them all get taxed and insured and MOT'd. And some namby pamby politician wants to make them blameless in accidents. With so many CCTV cameras about why ain't they clamping down.

Oh gosh, Childprufe, I don't think I'd deliberately push someone under a truck for cycling on a footpath, that would be... extreme. Murder, even. A hard stare is as far as I would go. It was her ( the cyclist's) thought process that amused me. Imagine it...

Here I am, a nurse, I'm a very nice person, inteligent, caring, dedicated but massively overweight, and smoking a cigarette taken from a box which has written on it, "This will kill you" or words to that effect. I've just finished a shift at a hospital that deals specifically with unsaveable cancer patients. So I know what smoking could do to me, I also know that being overweight isn't good for me either but armed with those facts and years of experience in dealing with people whom suffered as a result of ignoring them, I then conclude that the very best way to preserve my life is to ride my bike on the footpath so that I can smoke whilst I'm breathing more heaviliy- cos this will do maximum damage to my lungs and put my already overworked heart under massive strain but all without the risk of being in a road accident. It's win win.

Perhaps if they made it law that bikes had to be really heavy and could have only one gear, fewer people would want to ride them. They wouldn't go darting in and out of traffic etc.

Or even better: ban bicycles but make unicycles a tax efficient and financially attractive way to travel, then when you get cut up by one on a roundabout, you can yell out the window... Clown!
