Clearly a troubled individual for most of his life but nevertheless a truly iconic musician who contributed a huge amount to musical innovation in the late sixties/early seventies

In my view despite its sentiments 'Waiting For The Man' is an absolutely superb track and of course if we 'd never had Lou Reed I doubt whether we would have even got to see the likes of Ziggy Stardust in 1972

Really sad news

One of the most influential musicians in the last 50 years. As one of the articles says, he inspired garage, punk, grunge and of course Bowie.

It's incredible to think that Waiting For The Man was recorded in 1966! 'Velvet Underground and Nico' is a fine album, though I was less keen on his solo stuff.

By chance I was watching a programme on BBC Wales tonight about the Cardiff v Swansea Derby coming up this weekend - the first ever one in the Premier League

It included a potted history of both clubs including the time when former Cardiff player John Toshack became manager of Swansea after being a top player at Liverpool

And bearing in mind that this was a recorded show made many weeks ago guess what track they played when they showed Toshack taking over at Swansea - yes 'Waiting For The Man'

It just reinforces my view that psychic events rule our world and I can just visualise when Lou finally makes it to the promised land St Peter will be saying to him - 'You've got some more royalty payments in the heavenly bank Mr Reed - and Lou would probably respond by saying 'I don't have to worry as I don't have a liver any more - so forget the money - just get me some decent heroin' Smile
