|
|
The Freedom of Information Act, asked 130 NHS hospital trusts in England with A&E units whether they employed GPs in their casualty departments, and how much they were paid. 86 trusts which replied to a Freedom of Information request, 36 said they employed GPs in a range of roles including providing general cover, assessing patients when they arrived, and treating the less seriously-ill.
Rates per hour varied from £50 at Wirral hospital in Merseyside to £98 at Wrightington, Wigan, and £100 at Portsmouth Hospitals.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, at least one recruitment firm offered family doctors £120 an hour for a 12-hour shift – a total of £1,440 – at St Thomas’ Hospital in South London.

I don't think the rates are unreasonable. I didn't train for 7 years in order to qualify as a Doctor of Medicine, but my hourly consultancy rate can be £50.00, depending on the client and the brief. Lots of management consultants, consultant engineers, etc., charge as much as £300.00 per hour via agencies and it could be argued that their contribution to society is less than that of an experienced medical doctor.
As usual, this is the pro-establishment press stirring up anti-NHS propaganda - and that's without mentioning the Daily Mail at all. |

I agree with Colin here, I have very recently worked with engineers who were paid £200 an hour.
Doctors get the pay they deserve for such a stressful job IMO. |

Interestingly, my 30-year-old son popped around this afternoon and we were talking politics. He also noticed that there's a strange anti-NHS stirring in the centre and right-wing press. He mentioned that in one of the papers, the NHS was referred to as "Labour's Darling NHS". With a General Election now less than 18 months away, they're up to something! |

Its part and parcel of our lives. The NHS has changed over years - call it trusts now with big fat cats over seeing each area, wiith some run poorly which make the headlines and patients badly treated It all gives the media something else to dig up and get there teeth into.
This was released under freedom of information. Makes ready for part privatisation too. |

I'm not sure what you're getting at, Mark? It's part-privatised already. That's the problem. And it also hints at upcoming Tory policy announcements as we head towards the next General Election in May 2015.
Although, thanks to a comprehensive deletion of back-pages on his party's website (very conveniently erasing recent history and policy statements), Cameron would like us to believe that his party's intentions are "good", I'm not the only person who remembers his "no top-down re-organisation or disruption" statement about the NHS during his last election campaign. He did, of course, go on to implement exactly the opposite policy. |

I think the Tories would like to privatise the NHS fully.
As for the right wing press, the Daily Mail have always hated the NHS and the Telegraph are heading that way. |

Definitely. By chipping away at it bit by bit they obviously think we won't notice. Amazing really.

I believe they're conspiring with Cameron's mob to lay out their "radical proposals" for the NHS in the run-up to the next General Election. Just a gut feeling - because I smell a rat! |

I don't believe that Hospital Consultants are in any way overpaid compared to other comparable experts and many junior doctors are considerably underpaid for some very long regular shifts
Having just spent ten days in my local NHS Hospital I've nothing but praise for the quality of the care and the professionalism and dedication of the staff
who do a wonderful job often in difficult circumstances - my problem was more with the unreasonable attitudes of some of the other patients _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
